Seahawks Rebound from Tough Loss

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity softball lost to Mardela, 8-5, last week to relinquish a share of the lead in the Bayside South standings, but responded by destroying its next two opponents.

The lead in the Bayside South standings was up for grabs last week when the Seahawks took on Mardela on the road last Wednesday, but the Warriors came out on top of a seesaw battle. Mardela led 3-0 early, but Decatur rallied for four runs in the fourth to take its first lead. The first Decatur run came on a wild pitch, followed by three straight RBI hits by Jessica Iacona, Sam Simpson and Katie Colgan.

Mardela came right back in the bottom of the inning with four runs of its own to take an 8-4 lead. Decatur attempted a late comeback, pulling closer in the sixth when Colgan drove in Simpson to cut the lead to 8-5, but that was as close as the Seahawks would get.

However, there is still a lot of softball left and the Seahawks took out their frustrations on their next two opponents. Decatur drubbed Crisfield, 30-0, last Friday and followed that up with a 15-1 win over Washington on Tuesday. The Seahawks close out the regular season with three straight home games against Snow Hill, Wicomico and Parkside.
