Fatal Hotel Fall Ruled Accidental

OCEAN CITY — A local man’s fatal fall from a sixth-floor room at a north-end hotel in Ocean City early last Wednesday morning was officially ruled an accident this week by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.

Shortly after 4 a.m. last Wednesday, a local man, later identified as Gregory Sean Pierce, 46, of Berlin, fell to his death from the sixth-floor room at the Fenwick Inn on 138th Street under what appeared to be at the time suspicious circumstances. The victim’s body was located in the parking lot of the Fenwick Inn almost directly under the broken, jagged sixth-floor window above and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) detectives arrived on the scene and opened a full-scale investigation.

As of late last week, OCPD officials said the investigation was wide open with everything still on the table.

“Nothing has been ruled out,” said OCPD spokeswoman Jessica Waters last week. “At this point, we still aren’t sure if we’re dealing with a suicide, an accident or something criminal in nature.”

However, OCPD officials announced in a short press release this week the tragic incident has been officially ruled as an accident.

Services for Pierce were held this week at the DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg, Md. and at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Rockville, Md. A Gregory Pierce Memorial Fund has been set up local PNC Bank branches.

Family and friends ask in lieu of flowers donations be given in his name.
