Seahawks Feeling Blue After Think Pink Loss

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity basketball team lost to visiting Mardela, 74-43, on Tuesday as the Seahawks’ current losing streak reached four games.

Decatur faced the Warriors at home on Tuesday in the back half of Decatur’s “Think Pink” doubleheader for breast cancer awareness, but the final outcome likely had the Seahawks feeling blue. Mardela got out to a quick 7-2 lead in the first quarter before the Seahawks started getting its offense rolling. Jesse Engle hit a three-pointer at the 5:50 mark in the first to cut the Warriors’ lead to 7-5.

After a Mardela fast break basket, Tre Foreman, who returned to action after an injury layoff, scored on a lay-up to cut the lead to 9-7. Engle hit another long three-pointer from the corner with just over three minutes left in the first to cut the Mardela lead to 11-10. After a pair of Mardela free throws, Foreman scored again on a fast break lay-up to cut the lead to 13-12, but that was as close as the Seahawks would get. Mardela hit a long three-pointer as the first quarter expired to extend its lead to 16-12.

Throughout the second quarter and much of the second half, Mardela slowly pulled away from the Seahawks. Despite a couple of mini-runs late in the game, the Seahawks were clearly overmatched and fell to the Warriors, 74-43.

The loss was the fourth straight for the reeling Seahawks, who lost a tough one to Worcester County rival Pocomoke, 60-59, last Thursday. Decatur’s last victory was a 55-51 win over Snow Hill back on January 25. That win put Decatur’s record at 7-6 on the season, but after four straight losses, the Seahawks’ record now stands at 7-10. Decatur closes out the regular season next week with a pair of road games against Kent County and Queen Anne’s.
