Helen Anna Ferrell

OCEAN CITY – Helen Anna Ferrell, a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, passed away on Dec. 20, 2010, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Smith and Franz Reinhardt, in Cockeysville, Md. She was 80.

She was born to Anthony and Agatha Ena and spent her childhood in Highlandtown with her seven siblings. She graduated from the Catholic High School and married Frank J. Ferrell in 1950. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They raised three children in Lutherville. She obtained her real estate license and specialized in residential real estate. She developed many lifelong friendships with her clients and they called upon her services repeatedly. Prior to her retirement, she most currently worked for Grempler Realty in Towson.

Upon retiring, she and her husband moved to Ocean City, where they had owned a vacation home, making it their permanent residence. They lived in Ocean City for 12 years. She was well known by many of the merchants in Ocean City and had friends throughout the town. She and her sister, Toni Ney of Ocean Pines enjoyed attending monthly luncheons held by the Catholic High School Alumni Association in the Ocean City area.

She loved her three grandchildren and was devoted to them, as they were to her.

She loved to travel and most recently participated in a family trip to Italy, where she found several relatives and visited the birthplace of her mother in Camerino, in the Italian countryside.

She loved Italian music and especially the voice of Al Martino. She enjoyed attending his concerts and did so whenever he was entertaining in the area. Her favorite song was Al Martino singing “Spanish Eyes.”

She will be remembered for her warm spirit, generosity, good cooking and unconditional love of her family.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; daughter Diane Lynn Marsiglia and her husband Phillip of Phoenix, Md.; daughter, Debbie Ann Smith and her husband Franz Reinhardt of Cockeysville, Md.; and son, Frank Edward Ferrell and his wife Mary of Ocean City; her three grandchildren, Christopher, Kathryn and Andrew Marsiglia; two sisters, Lucy Weidle and Toni Ney; and brother, John Ena, Sr.

Henry Matthew Lanasa

OCEAN PINES – Henry Matthew Lanasa, age 84, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010 at his home in Ocean Pines.

Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Henry P. and Helen A. Lanasa. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Lanasa; three daughters, Julie Anne Smith and her husband Robert, Lisa LoVullo and Patricia Raborg; and a son, Eric Snyder and his wife Mary Kay. There are eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Services were held. Donations may be made in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.

Edward Franklin Schwenk
BERLIN – Edward Franklin Schwenk, 81, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010 at Gull Creek.


He was born in Washington, DC. Schwenk had worked for many years as a mechanical engineer. He had been employed with the Marriott Corporation, Carousel Hotel for 19 years and had been a maintenance engineer for the Delaware State Housing Authority. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.


He is survived by his son, Franklin Edward Schwenk and his wife Debra of Harwood, Md.; a stepson, John Emler and his wife Patty of Dagsboro, Del.; step daughters, Dawn McGee of Ocean City and Cynthia Deakyne and her husband Lee of Smyrna, Del.; a sister, Patsy Higgs of Annapolis; grandchildren, Steven and Caryn Deakyne and Sean Emler, nieces Carol Schwenk, Dorrie Winegardner and Patty Whitehead. He was proceded in death by his wife, Carol Madeline Schwenk; a daughter, Sherry Ann Schwenk; a brother, Richard Schwenk; and a sister, Mildred Leaman.


Services were held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the P.J. Aldridge Fund for Lung Cancer Research, PO Box 97, Ocean City, Md. 21842.

William L. Burbage, Jr.

LIBERTYTOWN – William Lee Burbage, Jr. “Bill”, 83, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010 at Atlantic General Hospital.

Born in Libertytown, he was the son of the late William Lee Burbage, Sr. and Lola Adkins Burbage. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta “Bertie” Phillips Burbage in 2004. He is survived by his son, William “Ted” Burbage and his wife Jo-Ann Seybert Burbage; a granddaughter, Billie Jo Burbage; and step grandchildren, Tammy and Rodney Boston and Mike and Christina Tingle. There is a great-grandson, Chance Coley, and step great-great grandchildren, Samantha and Kylie Boston, Caleb, Hannah and Haleigh Tingle. There is one niece, Jennifer Burbage Figgs.

Burbage had been a poultry grower, farmer and timberman. He was a member of the Maryland Fur Trappers Association, Worcester County Farmers Association and Delmarva Poultry Growers Association. He was a member of Faith Chapel Presbyterian Church.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Burbage Wootten, and nephew, Scott Wootten.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Burbage Funeral Home. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Rev. Olin Shockley will officiate. Interment will follow in the Burbage Family Cemetery in Libertytown.
