Certified Status Obtained

BERLIN – The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) has announced that John Motsko, Diabetes Resource Pharmacist at Apple Discount Drugs, achieved Certified Diabetes Educator® (CDE®) status by successfully completing the Certification Examination for Diabetes Educators.

Candidates must meet rigorous eligibility requirements to be able to take the examination. Achieving certification status demonstrates to people with diabetes and employers that the health care professional possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for people with diabetes. Currently, there are over 16,600 diabetes educators who hold NCBDE certification.

“This certification adds value and credibility to the diabetes counseling and services John provides to our customers and the community,” said Jeff Sherr, president of Apple Discount Drugs. “John has truly become a valuable resource to those suffering from diabetes. He has literally saved lives through his one-on-one counseling sessions.”

Motsko started working for Apple in 2009, after a 35-year career with Eli Lilly in the company’s diabetes division. He spearheaded the formation of Apple’s Diabetes Resource Center in 2009. The center provides basic diabetes instruction for meal planning and exercise. Patients can also receive injection instruction and medication management as well as confidential one-on-one counseling and monthly supports groups.

Starting in early 2011, Apple will expand diabetes services to offer nutritional counseling by a registered dietician, medication therapy management and monthly comprehensive group classes.
