Company Leaders Gain Training

BERLIN – R&R Coatings owner George Ralph, III and Vice President of Operations Dennis Greene recently attended the International Polished Concrete Conference and Seminar for additional training and to give their professional input on the industry and help develop a position paper for the young and growing trade.

Additionally, Ralph recently attended the MAPEI Concrete Restoration Institute and received his certification.

Area Doctors Recognized

BERLIN – The November 2010 issue of Baltimore Magazine featured Top Doctors in the region. This year Baltimore Magazine published two lists, one "Top Docs" and a separate list of top doctors at the beach. Atlantic General Hospital was well represented. To determine the top docs, a peer survey of 5,500 physicians in Baltimore and seven surrounding counties were asked where they would send their family in each of 86 specialties.

Local Grabs Hospitality Award

OCEAN CITY – Reba Felty is the recipient of the 2010 Audrey Davenport Hospitality Person of the Year award.

Named in honor of a Maryland Tourism Council past president legendary for exceptional customer service, this honor is awarded to an individual demonstrating outstanding service to Maryland visitors. Felty was nominated by Ruth Waters and was recognized by her peers in the Maryland tourism industry during the awards banquet at the Maryland Tourism & Travel Summit in Annapolis last week.

Felty, Director of Sales at the Comfort Inn Gold Coast, has been president of the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Partnership, the Ocean Pines Chamber of Commerce and the OC Recreation Boosters.

PRMC Donation Program Honored

SALISBURY – Peninsula Regional Medical Center was recognized by the Living Legacy Foundation last week for achieving high marks in organ and tissue donation. The Living Legacy Foundation of Maryland honors its community partners dedication to raising awareness for organ, eye, and tissue donation and their commitment to encouraging others to donate life.
In the 12 months from July 2009 to August 2010, the Medical Center attained a 50-64 percent organ donation conversion rate, a 10 percent donation after cardiac death conversion rate and achieved the greatest number of tissue donors in Tier 2. As a Tier 2 facility, Peninsula Regional Medical Center is ranked in the same category with St. Agnes Hospital, Washington County Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview.

Ad Campaign Wins Award

OCEAN CITY – The Town of Ocean City has been awarded ‘Best Continuing Campaign" in the State of Maryland for its "Rodney the Lifeguard" campaign created by the town’s advertising agency, MGH, Inc. The award was presented last week at the Maryland Tourism and Travel Summit in Annapolis.

Nominated by Maryland State Delegate Jim Mathias, the ‘Rodney" campaign was recognized by state tourism officials for its success in increasing tourism in Ocean City at a time when other destinations were struggling amidst a weak economy. In the second year of the campaign, Ocean City realized a 6-percent increase in June room tax, an almost 10-percent increase in July and 5-percent increase in August. The 2010 Rodney campaign featured two new television commercials with Rodney the Lifeguard rescuing people and bringing them to Ocean City.

"We are thrilled to have our Rodney campaign recognized by Maryland Tourism officials,’ said Mayor Rick Meehan. ‘It is quite an honor to be recognized and we are most appreciative of Delegate Mathias’ support in submitting the nomination for the award.

Ocean City Tourism Director Deb Turk and Communications Manager Donna Abbott accepted the award on behalf of the town at the Maryland Tourism and Travel Summit awards banquet held Thursday evening at the Loew’s Annapolis Hotel.
