Seacrets Lone Unbeaten in Flag League

OCEAN CITY- The Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department’s Fall Flag Football League continued this week with just one team, Seacrets, remaining unbeaten after a battle between the frontrunners.

Something had to give when league leading and unbeaten Seacrets and Schell Brothers-Greene Turtle met for the first time this year on Monday. Seacrets edged Schell Brothers-Greene Turtle, 25-20, to remain unbeaten at 6-0. Meanwhile, Buxy’s Salty Dog fell to the Blue Ox, 26-19, to fall to 4-2, while Kirby’s Pub beat the Buoys to improve to 4-2. The following is a quick look at some of this week’s action:

(bullet) Seacrets 25-Schell Brothers-Greene Turtle 20: Schell Brothers got on the board first on a 10-yard TD pass from Ray Taranto to Scott Dailey, but Seacrets responded with three straight touchdowns including an 11-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Gartland to Delon Bowen, a two-yard TD run by Gartland and a 27-yard scoring strike to Antwann Purnell to take a 19-6 lead. Schell Brothers came roaring back with two touchdowns including a 50-yard TD pass from Taranto to Ron Strickler and a 10-yard scoring strike from Taranto to Chris Pucci to take a 20-19 lead. However, Gartland hit Mike Kelley with a seven-yard TD pass to take a 25-20 lead late, and Luke Rommel ended a late threat by Schell Brothers with an interception.

(bullet) Blue Ox 26- Buxy’s 19: In a see-saw game, Blue Ox scored first on a 26-yard TD pass from Timmy Velasco to Chris Bolin, but Buxy’s answered with an eight-yard touchdown pass from D.J. Draus to Greg Lasinski. Blue Ox then scored two straight touchdowns on a 13-yard pass from Kevin Belt to Bolin and a 23-yard TD pass from Velasco to Bolin to take a 20-7 lead. Draus connected with Justin Howarth to cut the lead to 20-13, but Velasco hit Bowen again with the receiver’s fourth TD catch of the game to make it 26-13. Draus hit Patrick Spicer on a late touchdown pass, but Blue Ox held on for the 26-19 win.

(bullet) Kirby’s Pub 34- The Buoys 14: The Buoys’ Steve Fowler opened the scoring with a 50-yard bomb to take an early 6-0 lead, but Kirby’s came roaring back with four straight touchdowns to take control of the game. Quarterback Barry Snowden ran for a 15-yard touchdown and threw for three more during the sequence. Snowden hit Anthony Arellano on a 20-yard TD pass, Jeremy Harris on a 18-yard TD pass and another 50-yarder to Arellano to make it 27-6. Fowler then hit Jesse Krone on a 50-yard bomb to cut Kirby’s lead to 27-14, but Snowden found Wayne Bowden on a nine-yarder to extend the lead to 34-14.

(bullet) FOP 14- Alumni 7: Dennis Eade ran for a three-yard touchdown to open the scoring before the Alumni’s Eric Mitchell threw a five-yard TD pass to Chip Purnell to tie the score at 7-7. Eade then ran in from 11 yards out to put the FOP ahead for good at 14-7.
