Ellsworth George Merritt

BERLIN – Ellsworth George Merritt, age 91, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 at Atlantic General Hospital.

Born in Girdletree, he was the son of the late George Washington Merritt and Viola Mae Pruitt Merritt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lotus Aydelotte Merritt in 2001. He is survived by his son, Joseph Ellsworth Merritt and his wife Amy Marie of Fruitland, and daughters, Sandra Mae Jones and her husband Isaac D, Jones of Belle Haven, Va., and Nancy Louise Cropper of Berlin.

There are two grandchildren, Mary Ann Hickman of Berlin, and Isaac David Jones and his wife Jessica Pruitt Jones of Chesapeake Beach, Md. There are three great-grandchildren, Zachary William Hickman, Anna Catherine Hickman, and Jacob Isaac Jones.

Also surviving is a brother, Pete Merritt of Snow Hill, and sisters Thelma Phillips and her husband Charles of Berlin, Mildred Kelley of Washington, Pa., Dorothy Kelley and her husband Dave of Washington, Pa. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Wilson, Leslie, Preston, Charles and Howard Merritt and sister Virginia Jones.

Merritt had worked for many years at Purnell and Jarvis Builders as a carpenter, at Windsor Resorts for the Trimper family and Frontier Town. He also worked in farming.

Merritt was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church for over 40 years and had been a member of the Tuesday Night Late Mixed Bowling League.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church on Friendship Road in Berlin. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Rev. Linda Mariner will officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Berlin. Daisy Esther Henry-Bolden

OCEAN CITY – Daisy Esther Henry-Bolden, 96, of Ocean City died, Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at her residence.
Born in Sinepuxent, she was a daughter of the late Harry Henry and Clara Fooks Henry. Her husband, Earl Lee Bolden, preceded her in death in 1968.
She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Sinepuxent, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir, Pastor’s Aide Committee and Women’s Christian Society, now United Methodist Women.
Prior to retiring, she was employed by the Perdue and Coffin families in Ocean City.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving, devoted brother and caretaker, Sunder W. Henry of Ocean City; a sister-in-law, Ella Mae Henry of Pittsboro, N.C.; a cousin, Esther White of Berlin; special nieces and nephews, Sarah Copes, Harry (Lucille) Henry Jr., Julia Henry, Clifton (Betty) Henry Sr., the Rev. Linda (Theo) Hobbs, the Rev. Dr. Dianne Henry, L. Eloise Henry-Gordy, Patrick (Velda) and Barry (Tiwana) Henry, all of Berlin, James Henry of Sterling, Va., Larry (Violet) Henry, Hebron, Charlotte Henry of Salisbury, Virginia Lee (Clifford) Kee of Newark, N.J., Charles (Pearline) Henry of Delmar, Dale (Dellaphine) Henry and Evelyn (Jesse) Johnson, both of Wilmington, Clara Henry-Wright and Lisa (Reginald) Parker, both of Seaford, Robert Henry, Harrington, William (Joyce) Henry of 
Fayetteville, N.C., Edna (Clifton) Parker and Deborah Ratner of Pittsboro, and Dr. Sharon Henry of Baltimore; special friends, Charles and Penny Shorley, Bertha Johnson, JoAnn Pruitt, Richard and Pauline Campbell, all of Ocean City, and attorney Raymond and Susan Shockley of Berlin; a host of great, great-great-, great-great-great-, great-great-great-great-nieces and -nephews, other relatives and friends.
She will lie in repose Friday from 10 a.m.-noon at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Berlin. The funeral service will begin at noon. Pastor Helen B. Lockwood will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Assateague Road, Berlin.
