Fall Flag Football League

OCEAN CITY- The Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department’s Fall Flag Football League continued this week with two teams, Schell Brothers-Greene Turtle and Seacrets, remaining unbeaten.

Schell Brothers-Greene Turtle edged the Blue Ox, 26-18, while Seacrets blanked The Buoys, 27-0, to each remain perfect thus far at 5-0. Buxy’s Salty Dog topped FOP Lodge 10, 19-8, to keep pace at 4-1, while Kirby’s Pub routed Alumni, 20-0, to get to 3-2 on the season. The following are some of the highlights from this week’s games:

(bullet) Schell Brothers-Greene Turtle 26- Blue Ox 18: Ray Taranto opened the scoring with a 38-yard touchdown pass to Ron Strickler, but Blue Ox came right back to tie the game at 6-6 on a one-yard TD pass from Timmy Velasco to Brooks Morton. Taranto then made it 12-6 on a 42-yard bomb to Vince Stewart and expanded the lead to 19-6 with a 12-yard strike to Scott Dailey. Blue Ox cut the lead to 19-12 on a 38-yard pass from Velasco to J.R. Emmanuel, but Taranto his Stewart again on a 38-yard bomb to extend the lead to 26-12. Blue Ox added a late score on a 14-yard pass from Velasco to Morton, but that was as close as they would get.

(bullet) Seacrets 27- The Buoys 0: Ryan Gartland his Mike Kelley on an 11-yard touchdown pass to put Seacrets up 6-0 early. Gartland then hit Luke Rommel on a 16-yard scoring strike and Kelley again on a 10-yard TD pass to extend the lead to 20-0. Finally, Gartland carried it in himself on a one-yard touchdown run to extend Seacrets’ lead to 27-0, which is how the game ended.

(bullet) Buxy’s Salty Dog 19- FOP 8: D.J. Draus hit Justin Howarth on a 10-yard touchdown pass to put Buxy’s up early, 6-0. Greg Lasinski then returned an interception 37 yards to extend Buxy’s lead to 12-0. Draus hit Lasinski on a 43-yarder to push the lead to 19-0, which was all the scoring they would need. The FOP got on the board late with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Dennis Eade to Danny Bokinsky.

(bullet) Kirby’s Pub 20- Alumni 0: It was the Barry Snowden-Jamelle Jones show for Kirby’s, who blanked the Alumni, 20-0. Snowden started the scoring with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jones, than ran for a 15-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 13-0. Finally, Snowden connected with Jones again on a 21-yard touchdown pass. In addition, Jones had two interceptions in the game.
