BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity football team snapped a three-game losing streak in impressive fashion last weekend, beating James M. Bennett, 20-13, on Homecoming to improve to 2-4.

The Seahawks got out to an early lead, withstood a second-half rally by the Clippers and held on for the 20-13 win in front of a big Homecoming crowd last Friday. The win over Bennett snapped a tough, three-game losing streak for the Seahawks against bigger, faster teams from the Bayside North including a 35-7 loss to Kent Island, a 35-0 loss to Queen Anne’s and a 52-24 loss to North Caroline.

Back at home against a familiar Bayside South opponent, the Seahawks played well on both sides of the ball to get back in the win column last week. Despite having lost starting quarterback Tyler Hartrim, who was injured in the Kent Island game, the Seahawks moved the ball well under back-up Teron Tyre to put up 20 points. The Decatur defense kept Bennett out of the end zone for the entire first half and allowed touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters.

The Seahawks looked to keep some momentum going with a game against Easton last night, which was played too late to be included in this edition. Decatur finishes out the regular season with road games against Parkside and Wicomico and the annual season-ender at home against Snow Hill.
