Seahawks Routed by Queen Anne’s, 35-0

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity football team ran into a buzz saw last Friday, falling to Queen Anne’s, 35-0, in the second of three grueling games against Bayside North powerhouses.

After falling to North Caroline, 52-24, two weeks ago, the young Seahawks knew they had to put together a better overall performance last Friday against the Lions, who had not lost a regular season game in almost three years. Unfortunately, the streak continued for Queen Anne’s, which jumped out to a big early lead against the Seahawks and never looked back on the way to the 35-0 rout.

Queen Anne’s set the tone early, going 73 yards on its first possession for a quick 7-0 lead. The Lion’s built the lead to 28-0 by halftime, while Decatur struggled to get anything going on offense. Decatur’s often electrifying running back D.J. Kee was held to just 26 yards on 10 carries, and he accounted for just about all of the Seahawks’ offense.

Decatur did make one brief foray into Queen Anne’s territory, reaching the Lions’ 43 yard line late in the second half before a penalty, a botched snap and a sack sent them back across mid-field and into their own territory. Otherwise, the Queen Anne’s defense smothered any attempt by Decatur to get the offense moving.

After the loss to Queen Anne’s, the rebuilding Seahawks’ record now stands at 1-3 with no relief in sight. Decatur plays another Bayside North powerhouse Kent Island tonight for their third straight tough opponent in a row. Their only win of the season thus far was a blowout of Washington High back in week two.
