Roland Henry Carey, Jr.
BERLIN – Roland Henry Carey, Jr., age 84, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born in Berlin, he was the son of the late Roland Henry Carey, Sr. and Anna Hastings Carey. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Truitt Carey and is survived by his second wife, Betty J. Carey. Carey was a World War II Army Veteran having served in 1st Platoon – Company C, 7th Battalion in Germany. He had worked for the Adkins Co. for 46 years, was a life member and past chief of the Berlin Fire Co., member of the American Legion Post 123 in Berlin and faithful member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Berlin. Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Wayne Benson and his wife Thelma and Debra Mason and her husband Reggie; four grandchildren, Reg Mason, Jr. and his wife Christy, Penny Benson and her husband Charles Stanicki, Bill Scott and his wife Liz and Amy Tingle and her husband Reid; great grandchildren, Tim Stanicki, Parker and Sydney Tingle, Aidan Scott, and future great grandchild "Carey" Mason; and many nieces, nephews, friends and church family. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Myrtle Latchum, Thelma Savage and June McAllister, and his brother, Harold Carey. Services were held. Joan Crawford Bailey
BERLIN – Joan Crawford Bailey, age 76, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
Born in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Mayme Lewis Truitt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Halcom S. Bailey in 2006. Bailey was a graduate of Snow Hill High School where she played on the women’s basketball team. After graduation, she went to work as a bookkeeper for R.E. Powell and Company in downtown Salisbury and later worked as a bookkeeper with Bailey’s Pharmacy, Galaxy Bar and Grill and Liquid Assets. She is survived by her son, John B. Trader; her daughter, Allison T. Rodriguez and her husband Zachary; her grandchildren, Leslie, Ashley, Blair, Christina and Remy; a host of friends; and her devoted, loving and most compassionate caregivers. Services were held. Suella A. Danaher
BERLIN – Suella A. Danaher, 80, formerly of Baltimore and Ocean City, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 2 in Kona, Hawaii.
Born on Aug. 12, 1930 in Hancock, Md., she was the daughter of Leroy J. and Delmont Hayward Lochbaum. After graduating from Seton High School in 1948, she attended St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore and graduate in 1951. She started her nursing career at St. Joseph’s Hospital then later was employed by Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury where she retired from in 1994.
She married John Danaher, the love of her life, in 1956 in Baltimore and raised a family of eight children with him. She fulfilled a childhood dream to live at the beach when she moved to the Ocean City area in 1977. She was a daughter, sister, mother and grandmother to many, and now she is an angel to us all.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, John C. Danaher, Jr. and by brothers Jack and Richard. She is survived by her devoted children, John (Kathy) of Baltimore, Timothy (Sue) of Fenwick Island, Bridget (Nathan) of Forrest Hill, Md., Michael (Judy) of Fredericksburg, Va., Matthew (Tracey) of Fernandino Beach, Fla.; Mary Kate (Scott) of Kona, Hawaii; William (Joan) of Bishopville and Suealla (Kevin) of Hurlock, Md.; 22 grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Wheatley. She is also remembered fondly as Mrs. D to her many friends in Ocean City.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ocean City at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Maryland.
Robert Allan Rozell
BERLIN – Robert Allan Rozell, age 26, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010.
Born in Salisbury, he was the son of Scott Latham and Linda A. Rozell. He had worked as a cook, most recently at the Globe Theater in Berlin. He enjoyed fishing. Along with his parents, he is survived by his step-father, James Baysinger, and a sister, Molly B. Baysinger. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl R. Rozell. Services were held. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
Margaret P. Calhoun
BERLIN – On Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 Margaret “Peggy” P. (nee Pitts) Calhoun, age 91, of Heart Homes of Lutherville and formerly of Berlin died.
For many years, she was actively involved with the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Altar Guild in Berlin. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry Calhoun, devoted mother of Sandra Lee Young and Margaret Connelly Young and her husband Ernest Berardi. She was the loving daughter of the late Margaret (nee Purnell) Pitts and the late William D. Pitts and grandmother of Reese Cropper, III, Bryant Every, Kim Cropper Clark, Lisa Valle, Amy Cropper and Ross Hauff. She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.

Chor Ying Ng
BERLIN – Chor Ying Ng, 81, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
Born in China, she is survived by her husband, Kwan Cheng; three sons, Kenneth Cheng and his wife Yvonne and John Cheng and his wife Miranda and Chi Cheng; one daughter, Pansy Cheng; and several grandchildren. Cheng was a wonderful Mother and "Ma Ma". Services were held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th St., Suite 1002, Wilmington, Del. 19801.
William Michael Kurak, Jr.
OCEAN CITY – William Michael Kurak, Jr., 93, of Ocean City, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
Born Oct. 11, 1916 in Chisholm, Minn. he was the son of the late William M. Kurak, Sr. and Sofia Wakusa Kurak.
He graduated from the Chisholm Senior High School and in 1938 joined the US Naval Communications Reserve Unit as a 3rd Class Radioman. He was called to active duty in December 1940 and served aboard the USS Oglala which was at Pearl Harbor until the Japanese attack of Dec. 7, 1941. The USS Oglala was sunk early in the attack and shortly thereafter, he was assigned to the Communication Staff of COMSOPAC. In January 1944 he returned to the states (first time since 1940) and was assigned to another LST flotilla staff. After separation from the Navy in 1945, he went to college in Washington DC and worked as a management analyst for the Naval Air System Command.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Connie Kurak; a son, William J. Kurak and his wife, Sharon of Sugar Land, Texas; two daughters, Donna Marie Kurak of Arlington, Va. and Sheila Ann Poole of North Beach, Md.; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a brother, Alex Kurak & his wife, Vernelle of Minn..
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marion Vespa Kurak, his second wife, Sam Martino Kurak and his three brothers, Michael, John and Steven Kurak.
A graveside service will be held in the chapel at the Cheltenham Maryland Veterans Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at 1:00 pm. Officiating will be Pastor Ray Michener.

Emily Belle Molin
BERLIN – Emily Belle Molin, age 85, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Berlin, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Mitchell and Estelle Taylor Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Molin. Molin had worked as a clerk for the United States Railroads for many years. She is survived by her son, Steven F. Molin; her brother, Hillary M. Mitchell and his wife Priscilla; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. A private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Berlin.
George L. Fischer BERLIN – George L. Fischer, 80, died Sept. 6, 2010 at Wicomico Nursing Home.
He was born in Baltimore to the late George and Estelle Daska Fischer. He is survived by his loving wife, Bernadette; daughter, Barbara Ballengee and her husband Charles of Pasadena, Md.; son, John Desverreaux and his wife Deborah of Alabama; daughter, Carol Deal and her husband Stuart of Chincoteague, Va.; son, Robert Desverreaux and his wife Denise of Huntingtown, Md.; daughter, Jacquelyn Hamilton and her husband Geoffrey of Laurel, Md.; and special "Georgefather" to Amanda and Katie, grandchildren Ryan, John, Alex, Kayla, Emily, Ethan and Lexi. He is predeceased by his son, George L. Fischer, Jr. A memorial mass will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Berlin on Friday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. Arrangements are in the care of the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
