Berlin Dolphins Early Favorites in 2010

BERLIN- After stellar 2009 campaigns, the Berlin Dolphins’ teams appear to be the favorites in their respective divisions of the Salvation Army Red Shield Youth Football League this fall.

Entering their eighth season in the Red Shield league, which has been around for decades and features youth football programs from all over the Eastern Shore, both the Cadet Dolphins and Junior Dolphins are expected to be the favorites to win championships in their respective age divisions. Head Coaches Ron Bireley and Earnest Shockley both feel this years teams are the best Berlin has ever fielded since joining the league eight years ago.

“This league is full of future Bayside Conference talent and there is no such thing as a sure thing in sports, but we like what we’ve seen thus far in training camp,” said Bireley.

Meanwhile, Shockley, a former Stephen Decatur High School standout who coaches the Junior Dolphins, agreed the Berlin teams should be the class of the league this year.

“Our Junior Division is normally wide open, but this year we are going to be just a cut above the rest in this league,” he said.

The Cadet Dolphins open the regular season on the road on September 16 against the Salisbury Vikings, while the Junior Dolphins open against the Vikings on September 21, also on the road.
