Ronald
James Ellis

OCEAN
CITY – Ronald James Ellis, 76, of Ocean City, died Friday, July 23, 2010 at
home.

He was
born in Bishopville and was the son of the late Norman Lester and Dolly Ann
(Hickman) Ellis. 

He
retired after 33 years with the Town of Ocean City where he was the Water
Superintendent. He was a member of the Ocean City American Legion Post 0166, a
charter member of the Ocean City Elks Lodge and a lifetime member of the Ocean
City Volunteer Fire Department.

He is
survived by his wife, Patricia L. Ellis of Ocean City; a son, Ronald J.
"Jamie" Ellis Jr. of Ocean Pines; a sister, Helen Mae Chamblin of
Salisbury; and one grandson, Sawyer Ellis-Gaal. He is also survived by an aunt,
Myrtle Hickman of Bishopville, two nieces and two nephews.

Services
were held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s

Jean Darcey

OCEAN
PINES – Helen Jean Darcey, (nee Hunt) of Ocean Pines, died peacefully on
Saturday, July 24, 2010.

Born Jan.
6, 1931 in Fayette County, Pa., she was married for 32 years to
Edward Harding Darcey (deceased). She was the loving mother and grandmother to
daughter, Elizabeth Gail Nichols, and grandson, Ty Everett Nichols.
She is also survived by beloved sisters Dee Krantz and Betty Standiford. Sister
Marie Bassler is deceased.
She was retired from C&P Telephone Co., commercial broker in real estate
and past president of Anne Arundel Women’s Council of Realtors, member of USCG
Flotilla 45, Coxswain, and past commander of USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 1903.
She was a member of VFW Auxiliary, American Legion and Moose organizations and
the Worcester County Democratic Women’s Club and Central Committee.
She was the founder of AWEAR, an organization to educate women about
reconstruction after breast cancer in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

Nina L. Bakey

OCEAN
CITY – Nina L. Bakey, 88, of Ocean City, died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at
Catered Living at Ocean Pines.

She was
born in Pittsburgh, Pa. and was the daughter of the late Theodore and Mary
(Raba) Severa.

She had
been a bookkeeper for many years.

She is
survived by a daughter, Barbara A. Starzenski of Ocean City; a granddaughter,
Catherine Conklin; and four great grandchildren.

Services

Harry
O. Kirtley

OCEAN
CITY – Harry O. Kirtley, 83, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010, at his home.

He was
the son of Grover and Mary Thuma Kirtley, born in Baltimore. He retired from
Bethlehem Steel Corp and was a U S World War II Navy Veteran. After being
wounded, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Ocean City
American Legion Post 166 and the O.C. Senior Bowling League.

He is
survived by his loving wife, Mary; son Kerry and daughter-in-law, Cyndi;
daughter Layne Hoover and her finance Scot Eberly; and granddaughter, Jessa
Elizabeth Hoover.

A
memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 6 at the Community Church of Ocean
Pines with a family greeting at 11 a.m. and service at 11:30 a.m.

William
Barnes Hall Jr.

BERLIN
– William Barnes “Barney” Hall Jr., 81, of Fenwick Island and formerly of
Baltimore and Ocean City, died Sunday, July 18, 2010 at home.

He was
born in Ames, Iowa and was the son of the late William B. Sr. and Dorothy
(Davis) Hall.

He
served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of St. Luke
Catholic Church in Ocean City. He was a former member of the Ocean City Lions
Club, Ocean City Volunteer Fire Department, Ocean City Elementary School PTA,
where he served as past president, and he was formerly active in the Ocean City
Boy Scouts of America.

He is
survived by his wife, Anne Carroll “Nancy” Hall of Fenwick Island; three sons,
William B. Hall III of Fenwick Island, Scott P. Hall and J.H. Lee Hall both of
Ocean City; a daughter, Carroll L. Ward of Dayton, Va.; a brother, Thomas Hall
of Katy, Texas; two sisters, Sandra Hancock of Bonita Springs, Fla. and Jody
Anglin of Urbanny, Va.; and seven grandchildren, Will, Corey, Russell and
Carrie Hall, Brooks and Sarah Ward and Scott Gattuso.

He was
preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Hall.

Services

Paul
Thomas Quillen

MELBOURNE,
Fla. – Paul Thomas Quillen, 85 passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in
Melbourne, Fla.
He was born Oct. 14, 1924 in Taylorville to John and Mary Quillen.
He was a veteran serving the Marines. He was a charter boat captain and
carpenter.
He was a past Worshipful Master of Royal Palm Masonic Lodge No. 100 in
Homestead and member of the First Baptist Church of Melbourne. He enjoyed
fishing, golfing and woodworking, but most of all he enjoyed his family.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Audrey; his son, Tom Quillen and his
wife Nancy; daughter, Gail Ball; stepson and stepdaughter in law, Jim and Dusty
Carter; step-daughter and step son-in-law, Sandra and Lee Garrett; four
grandchildren, John, Rochelle, Melissa and Chris; six great grandchildren,
Jonathon, Logan Lee, David, Maggie, Nicholas and Elijah, four step
grandchildren, Ron, Charles, Cheri and Chris; two step great grandchildren,
Jaden and Colton; a sister-in-law, Marian Quillen of Ocean City; and two
nieces, Marijane Boyd and her husband Paul and Nancy Britt and her husband
Gregory. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leah Williams Quillen, and
a brother, John”Tip” Quillen in June.

William
R. Balk

BERLIN
– William R. Balk of Berlin died Saturday, July 10, 2010.

Before
moving to Berlin, he lived in Fallston in Harford County for over 30 years.

He is
predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Katherine Maren Balk, devoted mother of
Christine M. Howard, and her husband, Donald of Street, Md. and predeceased by
her daughter, Pamela J. Balk of Pittsville Md.; brother of Fred Balk and his
wife, Joyce of Freeland; brother-in-law, Edward Brunno of Pittsville and
predeceased by his sister Roberta Brunno; brother-in-law of Theodore
Christensen and his wife, Joanne of Reisterstown; sister-in-law, Karen Faecke
and her husband, Donnan from North Carolina; predeceased by brothers-in-law,
Thomas and Richard Christensen; adored grandfather of Megan and Matthew Howard
of Street, Md.; and also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and a host of
friends.

Services
and interment will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a later
time.
