H. Isabelle Cropper
SALISBURY – H. Isabelle
Cropper, 84, of Showell died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical
Center in Salisbury after a gallant battle with leukemia.
Born on Nov. 4, 1925, in
Showell, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mannie (Ennis)
Brittingham.
She was a lifelong
member of Showell United Methodist Church. During her lifetime of serving God,
she was a Lay Speaker, Sunday School teacher and served the church in many
positions including the Staff Parish Relations Committee. She was a member of
Showell Christian Workers, which raised additional funds for many years for the
operation of her church.
Known by Nana, Cha Cha,
Granny and Mom Mom, she operated a day care for many years and later became a
professional Nanny in the homes of several families that became her extended
family.
She was a published
author who was proud of her hometown and would tell you within the first
minutes of conversation about the wonderful community where she had lived her
entire life. As a homemaker, she strongly believed in family, friends and was
always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. Enjoying any meal at her table
was always a feast and treasured time for any one lucky enough to sample her
chicken and dumplings and anything else that she had prepared.
She is survived by two
sons, Courtland Cropper and his wife Wanda of Salisbury and Stephen Cropper and
his wife Katharine of Selbyville; one grandson, Stephen Jr., (Joey) Cropper of
Boston, Mass.; three granddaughters, Cynthia and husband Kevin Causey of
Delmar, Courtnie and husband Aaron Jones of Parsonsburg and Karey Jo and
husband Christopher Giddy of Boston, Mass.; three great-grandsons, Ryan Causey,
Jordan Cropper and Jacob Jones; and one great-granddaughter Kasie Causey. She loved her many nieces and nephews, their
families and the members of her church family were dear to her heart.
In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Hall Cropper,
and three brothers, Leland Brittingham, J. Ennis Brittingham and Austin
Brittingham.
A funeral service will
be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville with Rev.
Dean Perdue officiating. Family and friends may call between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Roxana Cemetery in Roxana,
Del.

Zaidee H. Mumford
BERLIN – Zaidee Henry
Mumford, age 96, died Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Heron Point of Chestertown.
Born in Berlin, she was
the daughter of the late George Edward Henry, Jr. and Margaret Kenly Henry. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward “Tuffy” Mumford in 1977;
her daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Mumford-Ames in 2003; and sisters, Margaret
Worthington and Elizabeth “Iggy” Hall.
She is survived by her
son, Charles E. “Ned” Mumford and his wife Gerrie; son-in-law, E. Almer Ames,
III “Ned” of Onancock, Va.; and six grandchildren, Charles E. “Carey” Mumford,
IV, Jason G. Mumford and his wife Brooke, Kenly Ames and her husband Eric,
Katherine Ames, E. Almer Ames, IV and his wife Megan, and Aaron S. Mumford and
his wife Heather. There are eight great-grandchildren; two nieces, Patsy W.
Evans and Mary Lou Sawan; and a dear cousin, Sarah White.
Mumford was a graduate
of Buckingham High School in Berlin and St. Mary’s Seminary, which is now St.
Mary’s College. She had worked as a bookkeeper with John Donaway Furniture Co.
in Berlin. She had lived at one time in Saudi Arabia for 10 years. She was a
lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Berlin, Daughters of the
American Revolution, Colonial Dames of America, Ocean City Golf and Yacht Club,
founding member of the Dunes Club and was an avid bridge player.
A graveside service will
be held on Tuesday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Churchyard in
Berlin. Rev. Michael Moyer will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations in her

Catherine Elizabeth
Townsend
BERLIN – Catherine
Elizabeth Townsend (nee Burns), 91, a resident of Glen Burnie, died on June 29,
2010 at Family Homecare in Glen Burnie, due to natural causes.
She was born Dec. 22,
1918 in Baltimore.
She married O. Felix
Townsend in 1958. They lived in Severna Park until moving to the Montego Bay
community of Ocean City in the 1970’s.
Townsend was a homemaker
and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, knitting, making jewelry and cooking.
She was preceded in
death by her husband, who died in April 2003.
She is survived by her
daughter, Marlene M. Scheibe of Glen Burnie; grandson, Edward C. Scheibe;
nephews, Edward N. Criswell and Michael McElaney; sisters, Gloria Jean McElaney
of Naples, Fla. and Jacqueline Jeanette Simms of Fla.; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
A graveside service was
held at Nelson Cemetery in New Church, Va. Arrangements made by Barranco &
Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.
