Decatur’s Bennett Shines at Camden Yards

BERLIN- The accolades kept raining down on Stephen Decatur
pitching standout Troy Bennett, who last weekend competed in the Brooks
Robinson All-Star Classic at Camden Yards in Baltimore and was named
Outstanding Pitcher for the South team in the annual contest.

Bennett, who was named Bayside South Conference Player of
the Year after an outstanding senior season at Decatur, was the starting
pitcher for the South team in the Brooks Robinson All-Star Classic played last
Sunday at Camden Yards following a game between the Orioles and the New York
Mets. Bennett pitched two scoreless innings for the South team to start the
game, which was ultimately won by the North All-Stars, 16-3, long after his
two-inning stint to start the game.

Bennett was one of only two players from the Eastern Shore
to participate in the game, which was started 29 years ago as the Crown
All-Star Classic in 1982 and played for the first decade or so in old Memorial
Stadium in Baltimore. The other Eastern Shore representative on the South team
was outfielder Jordan Gowe of St. Michaels.

Bennett was named to the South All-Star team in the Brooks
Robinson Classic after a successful tryout for the East Regional team. He has
since been named to Team Maryland, made up of All-Star players from across the
state that will compete in various regional and national tournaments this
summer. Bennett has committed to play at the next level next year at Towson
University, following a handful of former Seahawks to the Baltimore County
school.
