BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity lacrosse team rode
a big push early in the second half to put away visiting Gunston, 17-6, in the
semifinals of the ESIAC tournament on Wednesday.

The Mallards led 8-4 at the half, but Gunston showed
little signs of rolling over. However, Worcester settled the issue with an run
early in the second half including a goal just 30 seconds into the period to
make it 9-4. A little over a minute later, Worcester’s Molly Dickerson scored
to make it 10-4 and Sara Noyes scored about two minutes after that to make it
11-4.

Worcester increased its lead to 12-4 with just over 18
minutes left, but Gunston did not quit. Gunston scored two goals less than a
minute apart to cut the Worcester lead to 12-6 with a lot of time left, but the
Mallards took care of business down the stretch and pulled away for the 17-6
win.

The Mallards will face the winner of the other semifinal
between Saints Peter and Paul and Salisbury School in the ESIAC title game, but
they would likely rather play the latter. The Mallards beat Salisbury School,
25-1, last month, but lost to the Sabres, 17-5, in the last meeting between the
two old rivals.
