Jessie Lee Everhart

FRUITLAND – Jessie Lee Everhart, 55, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward Layton and Evelyn Mildred Culhane Layton Allen Coyle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruba Lee Everhart, in 2003.

She was a graduate of Stephen Decatur High School Class of 1972. She had worked with medication delivery for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Jamie Lee Everhart of Fruitland; an uncle, Frank Layton of Salisbury; three nieces, Stephanie Watson, Sarah Weiss and April Melvin; a nephew, Garrett Weiss; and four great nieces and 1 great nephew. There are several cousins, Johnny, Gregory and Michael Layton all of Salisbury. There are also two very special almost like adopted children, Nancy Helgeson of Powellville and Holly Dennis of Salisbury.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 9 at 11 a.m. at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private for the family at Evergreen Cemetery in Berlin. Donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21801.

Martha V. Morris

OCEAN CITY – Martha V. Morris, 81, died on Sunday, April 4, 2010 at her home in Ocean City.

Born in Monroe, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Henry Dial and Bessie Gibson Dial.

Morris graduated from Monroe High School and devoted her life to her family as a mother and a grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Howard Morris. She is also leaves a son, Jerry Morris, and a daughter, Linda Johnson. She was beloved grandmother to three grandchildren, Christina McCusker, Melody Morris and Jennifer Williams, and seven great-grandchildren, Allie Morris, Jeremy Johnson, Ryan, Matthew, and Sophia McCusker, Malinda Williams and Aiden Bahn.

Services were held. A contribution in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Program at Atlantic General Hospital, 9733 Healthway Drive, Berlin, Md. 21811.

Carl Gillman Foultz, Sr.

OCEAN PINES – The United States of America and Ocean Pines has lost a patriot, statesman and hero. Carl Gillman Foultz, Sr., passed away on the afternoon of Good Friday, April 2, 2010, at the age of 86.

Born in Lancaster, Pa., Foultz told everyone who would listen that his years at Ocean Pines were the happiest of his life. He enjoyed playing bridge with his family, friends and neighbors. He loved to fish, hunt, and garden. He looked forward to solving the bridge puzzle in the newspaper every morning.

He was a proud member of the Army of the United States Communication Service 3363rd Battalion, ERC, Signal Corps from 1942 to 1945 certified as a meteorologist, diesel mechanic and radio repairman serving under General Stilwell.

Following World War II, he continued his service and was recognized by the Secretary of Defense during the Cold War from Sept. 2, 1945 to Dec. 26, 1991. He held various positions at Tresco, RCA, and ITT, pioneering future technologies and was recruited by the Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation Administration. He was responsible for airport infrastructure, repairs, and quality control for such notable projects as Philadelphia Airport, Dallas Fort Worth Airport, and National Airport in Washington, DC. He was one of the designers of the original Sperry-Univac computers. He retired as a GS-15 Chief Industrial Specialist after 30 years and two months on Dec. 31, 1982.

He loved all the life-long friendships he made as an active member of the following associations and clubs: the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, The Boat Club, Sons of Italy, International Police Association Fraternal Law Enforcement Officials, Ocean City Municipal Airport, American Legion Post 123 in Berlin, VFW in Ocean City, Elks Club, Hump Pilots Association, American Mensa Limited Member with score of 98th percentile, Who’s Who in Aviation and Aerospace, and the Geezers Golfers Fraternity Club.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anna May Lucarello Foultz; children and spouses, Carl Gillman Foultz, Jr. and Janet Lee Donaway, Betty Ann and Dean Bourne, Shirley Ann and John Francis Roy Isbell, Sr., and Dr. Jeannette Kathryn and James Gregory Jones; grandchildren and spouses, Betty Marie and Coney Southerland, Michelle and Ryan Gillman Foultz, Donna May Henderson, Barbara Gail Henderson, Ross Carl Foultz, Nina Lynn Foultz, Jessica Renee and John Francis Roy Isbell, II, Brittany Sue Carol and Jared Robert Isbell, Carly Foultz Saunders, Joshua Gordon Jones; and great grandchildren Christian Ryan Foultz, Soloman Charles Southerland, Catherine Therese Isbell, and Carl Phillip Isbell due in August.

He will be remembered as an honorable, ethical, hard-working, no-nonsense, man. His wish was to give God all the glory and to never stop giving.

A private military memorial will be held for the family at Arlington Cemetery. He and his wife co-founded Star Charities, Volunteers in Action (volunteer events raising funds for countless charity organizations). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Star Charities, P.O. Box 1671, Ocean Pines, Md. 21811. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

James R. “Pat” Patterson

OCEAN PINES – James R. Patterson, 74, of Ocean Pines, passed away March 31, peacefully in his home.

He was the husband of Ann Marie Patterson. James was born in Dubois, Pa. on July 22, 1935. He was the son of the late Joseph and Marjorie (Rensel) Patterson.

He was the owner of PJ’s of Ellicott City, Md. and PJ’s of Carroltown Mall until retiring in 1999. From 2000 to 2007, he served on the Howard County Board of Appeals, serving as chairman in 2004 when the Pattersons moved to Ocean Pines.

He was active in the Howard County community, serving as president in the Howard County Cancer Society, the Ellicott City Business Association and the Howard County Tourism Council. He was also charter member of the BPOE Elks Lodge, Camp Springs, Md. for 45 years and is also a veteran of the States Army.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid Redskins fan. He loved watching all sports and visiting the ocean.

In addition to his wife, Ann Marie, he is survived by two children, Patrick James Patterson of Chesapeake Beach, Md. and Kristie Ann Veitch of Lancaster, Pa.; three stepchildren, Kimberly Marie Bono of Painter Md., Paul Vincent Edelmann of Leesburg, Va., Katie Barbara Beamon of Hollywood, Md.; and 12 grandchildren, Kevin, Hunter, Emma, Noel, Jill, Maggie, Jack, Tommy, Callie, Luke, Claire and Anna.
