BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity basketball team closed out its season last week with a loss to rival Salisbury School in the conference tournament final, but there were plenty of accolades to go around for the Mallards.

In its end of season awards, senior Justin Butler was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, while senior Justin Pappas was named Most Improved. Sophomore Alex Ternahan was the recipient of the Coach’s Award for the Mallards, who finished the season with a 9-8 record.

Butler led the team in scoring with 171 total points, followed by freshman Andrew Ternahan with 127 points and Alex Ternahan with 102. Alex Ternahan led the team in rebounds with 104, while senior Alex Maccari grabbed 80 boards for the Mallards and Butler finished with 70 rebounds.

Worcester Prep was also honored with several Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) awards. Coach Mike Grosso was named ESIAC Coach of the Year, while Butler, Alex Ternahan and Andrew Ternahan were each named to the All-Conference teams. The Mallards were also recognized as a team with the conference Sportsmanship Trophy.
