Ervin Coley Marsh, Jr.

BERLIN – Dr. Ervin (Erv) Coley Marsh, Jr., 78, died on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 at the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Crisfield, Md., he was the son of the late Luella Evans Marsh and Ervin C. Marsh, Sr.

Marsh, a graduate of Crisfield High School, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Salisbury University, the University of California at San Francisco, and Nova University. After teaching in Baltimore County schools, he moved to Sussex County, Del. to become principal of what was then Selbyville High School. After three years at the school, he was appointed director of Student Activities at the Delaware Department of Public Instruction in Dover, Del. Later he was named Assistant to the Delaware State Superintendent of Schools. Before his retirement, Marsh was Director of Accreditation and Certification for the Delaware Department of Public Instruction. During his time in this position, he was responsible for teacher certification and evaluation of colleges incorporated in the State Delaware. In 1996, Marsh retired to his farm in Roxana and in 2000 moved to Ocean Pines.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Merle, and their son Adam.

A brief memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. Lester D. Shockley, Jr.

SNOW HILL – Lester D. Shockley Jr. passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, following a brief illness.

Born on Nov. 5, 1929, he was the son of the late Lester D. Shockley Sr. and Maude G. Shockley. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Samuel G. Shockley.

He graduated from Snow Hill High School in 1946 and began his life-long career as a farmer, growing corn, soybeans and wheat, as well as raising chickens. Shockley took over full operation of the family farm in 1960.

Shockley was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church, in Whiton. He was one of several people dedicated to the preservation of Mt. Zion, chartered in 1873. He attended the church faithfully until services were curtailed. After that, he attended Bates United Methodist Church in Snow Hill.

For 57 years, Shockley was a member of Sinepuxent Lodge #193 AF and AM in Snow Hill and served two years as Master. He was a member of the Worcester County Soil Conservation District, the Maryland Forest Association and Maryland Farm Bureau. Shockley was considered conservative in some ways, but generous and compassionate in others.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rosine P. Shockley; his daughter, Susan Lynch and her husband Richard; his son, Jack and his wife Barbara of Snow Hill; and his son, Lester D. Shockley III of Charlotte N.C. and his former wife Katy of Salisbury. He is also survived by two grandsons, Sgt. Benjamin Lynch, Afghanistan and Cpl. Stephan Lynch, Camp Pendleton. He is survived by five granddaughters, Julia and Lauren Shockley of Snow Hill; and Rachel, Sarah and Hannah Shockley of Salisbury; a very special Aunt Madeline; two nephews; and many cousins.

Arrangements were in the care of Burbage Funeral Home.

Maryanna Maguire

OCEAN CITY – Maryanna Maguire, a Baltimore resident with strong ties to Ocean City and the resort area, passed away on Jan. 10, 2010.

She was the beloved wife of the late Judge John N. Maguire; devoted mother of Susan M. Spicer; grandmother of Amanda Spicer, Samantha McIntire and Brooke Spicer; and loving great-grandmother of Walker, Jack and Harper.

Maguire was from Baltimore where she was active in many philanthropic endeavors and charitable organizations. She was also well known in the Ocean City where she maintained a second residence on Bayshore Drive for at least three decades. Maguire was also very active in the Dunes Club.

A funeral service was held at Towson Presbyterian Church last Friday. Interment was private.

Jeanne Marie Moulaison

OCEAN PINES – Jeanne Marie Moulaison, 81, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in Melrose, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Lugene Moulaison and Philomena Bourque Moulaison.

She had worked in the computer technology field for 40 years having worked for John Hancock Life Insurance of Boston.

She is survived by a sister, Irene Marie Menghi and her husband Hugh of Ocean Pines; a brother, Eugene Moulaison of Phoenix, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Ocean Pines. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Georgetown, Del. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-5216 or the American Cancer Society, c/o Gerri Harrison, 337 Winter Quarters Dr., Pocomoke City, Md. 21851.

Ralston Julie Smith

OCEAN CITY – Ralston Jule Smith, age 79, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 at his home in Ocean City.

Born in Lawrenceburg, Ind., he was the son of the late Hiram Ralston Smith and Freda Baker Smith. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lee Smith.

Smith was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. He had been a marketing manager for a defense contractor.

Along with his wife, he is survived by three children, Ralston J. Smith, Jr. and his wife Ruth of Coco, Fla., Laura Lee Smith of Lorton, Va. and Lewis E. Smith of Coco, Fla.; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one sister, Eulalie S. Beagley of Lexington, Ky.

Cremation followed his death. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Worcester County Humane Society, PO Box 48, Berlin, Md. 21811. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Robert Elwood Wimbrow, Jr.

SALISBURY – Robert "Bobby" Elwood Wimbrow, Jr., 38, died on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010 peacefully at his home in Salisbury.

Born in Salisbury, he was the son of Robert E. Wimbrow, Sr. and Nancy L. Garrison Wimbrow.

He was a graduate of Snow Hill High School in 1989. He went on to earn a BA of Arts in Biblical Theology. He was an avid Martial Arts fan. He fought a long, courageous battle with a muscular disease from the age of 7. He loved his family.

Along with his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Linda Rogers and her husband Tim and Lisa Passwaters and her husband Jimmy; three nephews, Rob Sykes, Christopher James and Adam Passwaters; one niece, Lindsay James; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Services were held. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, 8501 LaSalle Rd., Towson, Md. 21286 or to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802. Arrangements handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Anthony V. Herr, Sr.

BERLIN – On Jan. 8, 2010, Anthony V. Herr, Sr. a former resident of Ocean City and retired Baltimore City fireman, died at the age of 93 at his sons home.

He was the loving husband of the late Gladys Herr (Nee Mohr); devoted father of Anthony V. Herr, Jr. and his wife Patricia R. Herr of Purcellville, Va. and the late Lois Marie McEntee and surviving husband Steve McEntee; and loving grandfather of Steven McEntee, Jr. of Sparta, N.J., Lee McEntee of Doylestown, Pa., Jonathan Herr of Washington, DC, Christopher Herr of Herndon, Va, Nicholas Herr of Herndon, Va. and Rachael Herr of Percellville, Va. He is also survived by three great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the chapel of Stella Maris 2300 Pot Spring Road Timonium, Md. 21093 on Friday, Jan. 29, at from 11 to 11:30 a.m. when a funeral mass will be celebrated. Interment Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery.
