BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity basketball team dropped its season opener this week, falling to Greenwood Mennonite, 41-24, on Tuesday, but the season and the future look good for the program.

Mallards’ Coach Sharon Repass has just eight players on the varsity roster this year, but what the team lacks in depth should be more than accounted for in talent and desire. Four of the eight players on the roster are seniors, including co-captains Theresa Ciletti, who led the team last year, and Sara Noyes, who transferred from rival Salisbury School last year but was forced to sit out the basketball season.

Other seniors include multiple sports players Molly Dickerson and Laura Breslau, along with a pair of talented juniors in Anna Pavlos and Devon Zorn. Sophomore Olivia Wilgus is expected to make a significant contribution and freshman Molly Marshall is already making her presence felt just one game into the young season.

In the 41-24 loss to Greenwood Mennonite in the season opener, Wilgus led the Mallards with eight points, while Ciletti and Marshall pitched in four each. The Mallards face Salisbury School this afternoon on the road and won’t play at home until their invitational tournament next weekend.
