Friday, Dec 4–Three Arrested In Club Fight

OCEAN CITY – Three local area residents were arrested last week during a large fight involving hundreds at a midtown Ocean City nightclub during a special event hosted by a Washington, D.C.-based clothing company.

Around 1:15 a.m. last Sunday, Ocean City police responded to Castaway’s Bar and Restaurant on 64th Street for a reported fight in progress. Arriving officers encountered a crowd estimated at 350 to 400 individuals with several small fights occurring inside the establishment. Due to the size and uncooperative nature of the crowd, which had allegedly spilled out of the establishment and into the parking lot and onto 64th Street, Ocean City police requested additional personnel from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police to assist with the control and dispersal of the crowd.

The incident occurred during a special event hosted by Envius Couture, a Washington, D.C.-based lifestyle clothing company, and included a performance by recording artist Phil Ade with the Sound of the City Band along with three disc jockeys. A promotional poster referred to the event as “All Black Everything” set for Castaway’s on Saturday, Nov. 29 from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. and urge guests to wear all black attire.

The event targeted an urban clientele largely from the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, but it’s important to note the only three arrests made by Ocean City police during the incident were from the local area. For example, Tyronn Rashaad Lawson, 22, of Berlin, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Deonna Taccura Bailey, 27, of Berlin, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, failure to obey a police officer and disorderly conduct, while Shanice Lavea Fooks, 24, of Salisbury, was charged with obstructing and hindering a police officer. All three suspects were taken before a District Court commissioner and later released on their own recognizance. The incident is still under investigation and additional charges are pending.
