Vernon Orem Ricks, Jr.

OCEAN PINES – Vernon O. Ricks, 79, died Nov. 18 2009 at home.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Rickert Ricks, and children, Steven Ricks and wife Patricia, Lynn Rodriques and husband Frank, Paul Ricks and wife Rosemarie and Jeffery Ricks and his wife Malia. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer, Lauren, Ian, Laura, Mark, Sarah, Mikayla, Tanner, and Lily.

He worked for Baltimore Gas and Electric for 44 years as an electrical distribution supervisor. He was an avid Ravens fan, a family man, and a much loved father and grandfather. 

Services were held. Donations may be made in his honor to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21801.

Arrangements are in the care of Burbage Funeral Home. 

Wade H. Riner, Sr.

NEWARK – Wade Hampton Riner, Sr. age 85, died at the Berlin Nursing Home on Nov. 20, 2009.

He was the son of Wellington Hinchman Riner and Anna Myrtle Ballard Riner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica. He is survived by his son, Wade H. Riner, Jr., and wife Cindy, and daughters, Karen L. Riner and Elaine Fiorita. He is also survived by two brothers, Richard Riner and Kester Riner; four sisters, Ruth Riner, Mary Witten, Anna Fox and Margery Wickline; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Wade was a 23-year Army veteran, with the 9th Army Infantry, and a veteran of Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the Boggs-Disharoon Post 123, American Legion, and a life member of the  Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 194 of Salisbury. Later he worked for Mario’s and the Bonfire Restaurant in Ocean City. He enjoyed his retirement years, traveling  and socializing with his veteran friends. He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh.

A private memorial service will be held at a later time.

Alan B. Doeberl

SELBYVILLE, Del. – Alan B. Doeberl, 87, of Selbyville, Del., died Friday, Nov. 20 at the Salisbury Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

He had been a carpenter for many years and was a member of the Ocean City VFW Post and the Sportsman’s Club at Swann Keys. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his son, Jeffrey A. Doeberl of Lutz, Fla. and Alan Craig Doeberl of Sherrills Ford, N.C.; a daughter, Cheryl S. Doeberl of Coscob, Conn.; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene P. Doeberl.
