Nannie L. Cymek

BERLIN- Nannie L. Cymek, 95, of Berlin, Md. and formerly of Towson, Md., died peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

She was born in Baltimore, Md. and was the daughter of the late Claude C. New, Sr. and Ora L. (French) New. 

She was employed for many years by Hutzler Brothers of Baltimore.  She is survived by her son, Douglas S. Cymek and his wife Vicki of Ocean City; two grandchildren, Kimberly C. Frey and her husband Kevin, and Stephen D. Cymek and his wife Michele; and five great-grandchildren, Connor Hicks, Riley Hicks, Logan Cymek, Madilynn Frey and Finley Cymek.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Casimir “Cy” Cymek and her beloved brother, Claude C. New, Jr. of Baltimore.

Services were held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Seaside Christian Academy, 12637-A Ocean Gateway, Ocean City, Md. 21842. Arrangements were handled by Hastings Funeral Home, and online condolences may be sent by visiting www.hastingsfuneralhome.net.

Cashar E. Hall

SELBYVILLE- Cashar E. Hall, 80, of Selbyville, Delaware passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at home. 

He was born on December 12, 1928 in Bishop, Maryland to the late Charles and Emma R. Bradford Hall. Hall was a weighmaster for Tyson Foods, Inc.  He was a member of the B.P.O.E., Elks Lodge #2173, Selbyville, an avid beagler and foxhound enthusiast and he loved hunting and the outdoor life.

Hall was preceded in death by his wife Berniece V. Oliphant “Peach” Hall in 2004, two brothers, Preston and Chester Hall, and his parents.

He is survived by two sons, Charles J. Hall and wife Deborah of Selbyville; Clay A. Hall and wife Deborah of Dagsboro; one daughter, Cathy L. Burton and husband John of Selbyville; one sister, Margaret Mumford of Selbyville; three grandchildren, Heath and wife Angie; Chad and wife Amy; and Cole Hall, and five great grandchildren, Eric, Gage, Chase, Kaylee, and Kinsley.

A service was held Monday November 9th at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, Delaware. Pastor Leroy Weymouth officiated.  Interment was at the Redmens Cemetery in Selbyville.

In Lieu of flowers the family asks for contributions to the Selbyville Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 88, Selbyville, Del. 19975 or to the Selbyville Elks Lodge, P.O. Box 983, Selbyville, Del. 19975.    

Gary W. Outten

BERLIN- Gary W. Outten, 58, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Peninsula General Hospital Medical Center.

Born in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Granville and Evelyn Still Outten. He is survived by his wife Lucinda “Cindy” Outten of Salisbury; sons Matthew K. Outten of Frederick; Joshua C. Outten of Salisbury; stepsons, Matthew T. Ross and his wife Megan of Boone, N.C. and Benjamin E. Ross of Salisbury. Also surviving are brothers Ralph K. Clark and his wife Patti of Sharpsburg and Greg Sprecher and Harvey Sprecher of Hagerstown and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law Elaine and Victor Laws; sister-in-law Constance Rue and her husband John, and brother in law Douglas Jones.

Outten was a graduate of Wicomico High School and Salisbury State College. He had been a truck driver for many years working for Giant Foods, Schmidt’s Bakery and Hagen Das Ice Cream. He was a past member of the Salisbury Moose Lodge #1208, the Elks Lodge #699 and has attended Makemie Memorial Presbyterian Church in Snow Hill.

He had been and avid swimmer,

lifeguard and wrestler. He enjoyed football, was passionate about music and was active in online research advocating for his disease Hepatocellular Carcinoma. He also was strong champion for children’s rights in school.

A funeral service was held on Monday at Makemie Memorial Presbyterian Church in Snow Hill. Rev. Debra Latture officiated. Interment was in the Makemie Churchyard.

Lester James “Junior” Wells III

GUMBORO- Lester James Wells III, “Junior,” 55, of Gumboro, Delaware passed away on October 31, 2009 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

His mother, Elva Fisher Wells preceded Junior in death in 2008.  He is survived by his father, Lester James Wells Jr. of Gumboro; his wife of 27 years, Deborah H. Wells; two special nieces who lived with him; Tara and Chelsea Joseph; a brother; William J. Wells and wife Kaye of Millville, Delaware; a sister, Bonnie Wilkerson and husband Charlie of Gumboro.. 

He is also survived by four nieces and nephews, 10 great nieces and nephews, two great great nephews, and his beloved canine friend, “Mandy” and many, many friends, across Delmarva. He was a sales and service dispatcher for G& M Sales in Salisbury, Maryland. Junior was devoted to his family and everyone’s children, and his church family at Country Baptist Church. 

Junior was an avid fisherman, Nascar and stockcar fan. He loved to help on pit crews at the Delmarva Speedway.  A Funeral Service was held on Thursday November 5, 2009 at Watson Funeral Home. Interment was in Dale Cemetery, Whaleyville, Md. Pastor’s Kevin Lewis, and John Merritt officiated.  In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Victory Junction, 4500 Adams Way, Randleman, N.C. 27317. Arrangements were handled by Watson Funeral Home.

Doris Birch Savage

WEST OCEAN CITY- Doris Birch Savage, 80, died Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.

Born in West Ocean City, she was the daughter of the late Curtis Henry Birch and Esther Tubbs Birch. She is survived by a brother Victor Birch and his wife Susan; nephews and nieces, Curtis Birch, Sonia Birch, Kevin Birch and his wife Kim; Esther

Harrell and her husband Troy; Stedman Birch, Vicki Burns and her husband Joel; Ronald Birch, Cheryl Adams, Dale and Jeff Brown.

She is predeceased in death by a son, Frederick W. Savage; a brother, Curtis W. Birch; a sister, Ruth Brown; and long time companion Wilber Smith.

Mrs. Savage attended Ocean City High School and worked at Perdue’s Soda Fountain, Savage’s Market, Birch’s Market and Ocean Candles.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, November 4 at. the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Berlin. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Diakonia, 12747 Old Bridge Rd., Ocean City, Md. 21811. Letters of condolence may be sent to [email protected].
