BERLIN- The Berlin Dolphins Juniors ran their winning streak to three games last week, pounding the Salisbury Terps, 33-12, in a key Salvation Army Youth Football League contest.

The outcome was never really in doubt from the beginning as the Berlin Juniors, ages 11-13, controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball for much of the contest. Berlin got on the board first on a six-yard touchdown run by Jared King and an extra point by Andrew Borradale to take a 7-0 lead. Salisbury answered with a touchdown of its own, but the extra point failed and Berlin led 7-6.

Berlin scored again on an eight-yard run by King and Borradale converted to make to 14-6. The Dolphins completed their first half scoring barrage with a seven-yard TD run by Tayevon Mills to go up 20-6 at the break. In the third quarter, Mills went off with touchdown runs of 49 yards and 43 yards to settle the issue once and for all with a 33-6 lead.

Salisbury added a late score to cut the lead to 33-12, but that was as close as the Terps would get. For Berlin, the win over Salisbury was one of two the Dolphins earned on the day. An early season loss to Pocomoke was converted to a win when it was learned the Warriors had used ineligible players. The Junior Dolphins’ record now stands at 4-1 on the season.

Meanwhile, the Berlin Dolphins Cadet team was not as successful last weekend, falling to the Salisbury Black Knights, 26-0. During the recent two-game skid, the Cadets have been giving up big plays on defense and failing to convert long drives in the red zone on offense and the pattern continued last week.

Salisbury scored early on a 55-yard kick-off return and added another quick score on its next possession on a 50-yard touchdown to set the tone early. After that, the Cadet Dolphins settled down and had some sustained drives on offense, only to see them stall in the red zone. Salisbury went on a long scoring drive late in the first half to make it 20-0 at the break.

In the second half, the Cadet Dolphins stiffened up on defense, allowing just one more score in the game, which ended with Salisbury on top, 26-0.
