BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity football team, mired in a four-game losing streak going into last week’s game against Easton, enjoyed some home cooking, thrashing the Warriors, 48-0, behind a strong offensive performance led by Delonte Tate.

Decatur had dropped four in a row going into last Thursday’s game against Easton, including a couple of near misses. The Seahawks left nothing to chance in the wind and rain at Seahawk Stadium, setting the tone early and cruising to the 48-0 blowout win.

Decatur’s all-everything back Delonte Tate led the way, rushing for 236 yards and five touchdowns, turning in a performance reminiscent of another Tate who used to roam the field at Seahawk Stadium, Bennie Tate, who is featured prominently in the backfield at Auburn University. Tate scored on his first touch of the game, rushing 35 yards for a touchdown on Decatur’s first possession.

After that quick score, there was no looking back for Decatur, which turned in a complete effort on both sides of the ball to cruise to the easy victory and put some distance between them and the four-game losing streak. Tate found the end zone four more times during the game, while D.J. Kee added two touchdowns of his own.

Last Thursday’s win came less than a week after a heartbreaking 14-13 loss to Bennett during which the Seahawks had several opportunities to win the game. The big win over Easton could provide a springboard of sorts for the Seahawks, who head into the final leg of their season starting tonight with a Homecoming game against Parkside. Decatur will face always-tough Wicomico at home next week before finishing the season against county rival Snow Hill.
