BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity soccer team turned in two dominating performances this week, beating Greenwood Mennonite, 9-1, at home last Thursday before thrashing host Holly Grove, 7-1, on Monday to remain unbeaten on the year.

With the two lop-sided victories, the Mallards extended their season-long unbeaten streak to 12-0 with just a few speed bumps standing between them and a potential perfect season. Against Greenwood Mennonite last Thursday, the Mallards got goals from all over the field including two each by Andrew Ternahan and Ben Mumford. Also contributing single goals during the rout were Hunter Marshall, Matt Carey, Ryan McGuire, Jon Powell and Michael Dayton-Jones.

On Monday, the Mallards hit the road for a match against Holly Grove and the outcome was pretty much the same. Worcester pulled away from Holly Grove, 7-1, behind a hat trick from Martin Sanchez, who finished with three goals and an assist. Carey pitched in with two goals, while Ternahan added a goal and two assists and McGuire contributed a single tally.

Worcester’s record now stands at a perfect 12-0 on the season, during which they have now outscored their opponents 68-9 including five shutouts. The Mallards host Gunston this afternoon for Senior Day to wrap the regular season. They will be top seed in the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) tournament that gets underway next week with the dates, locations and opponents yet to be determined.
