Concetta Vendemia Canfora

OCEAN PINES – Concetta "Tina" Vendemia Canfora, 85, of Ocean Pines, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center from complications due to diabetes. She had been ill since the beginning of June.

Born in New Castle, Pa., to Stefano and Assunta "Susan" Granata Vendemia, she moved to the Eastern Shore in 1991 with her husband, Philip C. Canfora, who died on May 19, 2008.

She is survived by her daughter, MaryAnn; her daughter, Susan Canfora of Ocean Pines; Kim Horsey of Lancaster, Pa., who she considered her third daughter; her brother, Anthony J. Vendemia of  Florida, his wife Marian and their children and grandchildren; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

She was grandma to daughter Susan’s dog, Russell Caesar, and to both daughters’ several cats.

A dedicated mother who stressed the importance of education and honesty, she was loved by family and friends who often complimented her on her pretty white hair.

She and Mr. Canfora were married June 1, 1946, in New Castle. They met after high school graduation, during her employment as bookkeeper for his grandfather, Joseph Bordonaro, owner of Bordonaro and Canfora Produce. After they were married, she continued as bookkeeper for the family business. Later, she was an accountant for Barletto Equipment Company in New Castle.

Services were held. She will be buried with her husband at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock.

Marion Templeman Beall, III

OCEAN CITY – Marion Templeman Beall, III, age 68, died on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. Born in Gaithersburg, Md., he was the son of the late Marion and Lillian Hargett Beall.

Beall was a United States Army Veteran. He had worked as a Baker with Giant Food where he retired after many years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #166 and VFW Post 8296.

He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years Emilie Beall; six sons, Kenneth Beall and his wife Genise, Michael Beall and his wife Agatha, Ronald Beall and his wife Marie, Michael Muller and his friend Christine, Kenneth Muller and Richard Muller and his wife Ruth Ann; three brothers, John Beall and his wife Linda, Phillip Beall and his wife Judy and Robert Beall and his wife Trina; and seven grandchildren, Michael Beall, Jr., Alexandria, Max, Destiny, Danity, William Muller and Amanda Muller.

Services and Interment will be private at a later date. Arrangements by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Evelyn F. Jerdon

OCEAN CITY – Evelyn F. Jerdon, age 60, of Earleville, formerly of Ocean City, Ocean Pines and Glen Olden, Pa., passed away on Sept. 25, 2009 at Union Hospital in Elkton.

Jerdon was born on Dec. 13, 1948 in Pennsylvania to Rufus Willis and the late Faye Robinson. She was a cook at the Coach’s Corner Diner and Alan’s Deli in Ocean City in which she established a loyal following of soup lovers.   

She is survived by her husband, John G. Jerdon; father, Rufus Willis of Oxford, Pa.; son, Richard M. Hambleton and his wife Rose of Earleville, Md.; daughter, Lorie Shadwell and her husband William of Prospect Park, Pa.; four grandchildren, William John Shadwell, Justin H. Shadwell, Briana Shadwell and Ryan Hambleton; and niece, Jena Jerdon.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 at R. T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 318 George Street, Chesapeake City, Md. where friends may call one hour prior. To send condolences visit www.rtfoard.com.

Daisy M. Repsch

BERLIN – Daisy M. Repsch, age 88, of Ocean Pines, passed away Monday, September 28, 2009 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.

She was born in Frankford, Del., daughter to the late, James M. Gray and Hattie (Murray) Gray.

She was a nightclub owner in Ocean City.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Benjamin S. Burton, in 1944 and second husband, Alfred V. Repsch in 1972. She is survived by her brother, Merrill Gray, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St, Frankford, Del. 19945, where friends may call after noon.

Robert Henry Uhl

NEWARK – Robert Henry Uhl, 72, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

Born in Essex, MD he was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Rogers Uhl. He is survived by his wife Marlene E. Uhl.

Uhl had been Captain of the Fire Department in Baltimore County. He was a member of the Ocean City Elks Club, Guns and Hoses Clubs, one of the oldest members of the Red Knights and a proud owner of a Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Ocean City and a past member of the Ocean City Lions Club.

Along with his wife, he is survived by nine children; 20 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 at 11 a.m. where friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro, Del. Arrangements by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
