Karen Klempner Benner

OCEAN PINES – Karen Klempner Benner, 52, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at her home.

Born in Salisbury, she was the granddaughter of Fred and Mabel Records of Princess Anne and the daughter of the late Patsy Records Sterling.

She is survived by her husband, Philip C. Benner, and daughter, Kaitlyn Nibblett, of Berlin. She is also survived by her sister, Ellen K. Trader, and brother, Joseph Barry Klempner, both of Ocean City, and a niece, Blair Elizabeth Trader of New York City.

She was a graduate of Washington High School in Princess Anne. She had worked as a dental receptionist and a bartender with Crab Alley. She was a member of Atlantic United Methodist Church in Ocean City.

Services were held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Worcester County, PO Box 48, Berlin, Md. 21811.

Philip G. Honsinger

OCEAN PINES – Philip G. Honsinger departed this life to be with the Lord on Sept. 21, 2009.

He leaves behind a loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Doris J. Honsinger, and his five children; Sandra Reinhardt, wife of the late Paul, of Richmond, Va.; Debora (Crawford) Gallo, wife of Charles, and Lisa McNeill, wife of Ed, of Ocean Pines; Walt Honsinger, husband of Debra, of Lancaster, Pa.; and Tim Young of Princess Anne, Md. He also left nine grandchildren, Mark and Mike Crawford and Philip and Julie Honsinger of Lancaster, Pa.; Mary, Jon and Tess McNeill of Ocean Pines; and Shelby and Layla Young of Maryland; and two great grandchildren, Abigail and Kate Crawford of Lancaster, Pa.

He was born and raised in Detroit, Mich. and attended Almont High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He attended Wayne State University and Lawrence Tech in Detroit, Mich. He was employed as a quality control engineer for American Standard in Detroit for 24 years. He also lived and worked in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Lancaster, Pa ending his career with Emhart Temple, Pa. as a plant manager.

Upon his retirement, he spent the next 16 years in Ocean Pines. He become very active in the Ocean Pines Kiwanis and served as president. He organized many community projects and events. He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family at the Ocean Pines Yacht Club. He also took on several part-time jobs including working at the museum on the Boardwalk and then Home Depot. He loved to garden and had the nickname of "Johnny Appleseed". When he wasn’t gardening, he would be out sailing his boat "Happy Days".

He was a wonderful father and a devoted husband. He will be missed by his loving family who invite you to a memorial to celebrate his life on Friday, Sept. 25 from 10-11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Route 589 and Beauchamp Road, Ocean Pines.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in the name of Philip G. Honsinger to Coastal Hospice at the Lake, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802.

Donald Emrich Walter

BERLIN – Donald Emrich Walter who was born in Hebron on Nov. 26, 1938 passed away on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with polycystic kidney disease.

He was the fourth of five children born to the late William and Ruth Goslee Walter. Walter had been a professional long distance truck driver who, prior to his illness, was leased to Williams Refrigerated Express, now Burris Transportation of Federalsburg, Md.

Walter, lovingly referred to as Dum Dum by his wife of 44 years, was an inspiration to family and friends during his many years of illness. He was a United States Army Veteran.

Although disabled for the past 23 years, he continued to serve his community as a Friend of Quota International of Salisbury. He was the past vice president of the Kidney Transplant Support Group of Delmarva and volunteered during the holidays at the Deers Head Dialysis Unit. More importantly, Walter served the Lord. He had been the chair of the Administrative Council for the Mt. Hermon U.M. Church at Columbia, Del.

His survivors include his wife, Diane Austin Walter of Mardela Springs; his son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Mary Walter of Ocean Pines; one brother and his wife, James and Joanie Walter of Delmar, Del.; a brother-in-law and his wife, William and Catherine Austin of Mardela Springs; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Walter of Delmar; a special uncle and aunt, Howard and Reba Goslee of Salisbury; and a special aunt, Isabelle Goslee Heflebower of Lawndale, Calif. Also left to cherish his memory are several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews and two great-great nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Walter of Delmar and Robert Walter of Georgetown, Del.; and a sister, Phyllis East of Hebron.

Services were held. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
