Paul Franklin Brown

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Paul Franklin Brown, age 75, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 at Hope Hospice North in Cape Coral, Fla.

Born in New London, Conn., he was the son of the late Melville “Jim” Brown and Molly Anderson Brown of Ocean City. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Toole Brown, in 2000. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Briggs Brown of Cape Coral, Fla. and two sons, Andy Brown and his wife Nikki of Ocean City and Doug Brown and his wife Barrie of Ocean City. He was preceded in death by his son, Glenn T. Brown, in 1995. There are eight grandchildren, Ryan Brown, Meghan Brown, Corey Brown, Annie Brown, Chelsea Brown, Charlie Hill, Nicholas Hill and Elizabeth Cimetta.

Brown had been owner and operator of the Sea Spray Motel in Ocean City, was an Ocean City postman, builder, member and past president of the Ocean City Lions, member of the Evergreen Masonic Lodge #153 AF-AM, Boumi Temple Shrine, and Ocean City Golf Club. He loved fishing and was an avid reader.

Phillip E. Brittingham

BERLIN – Phillip Edward Brittingham, age 61, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 at his home.

Born in Berlin, he was the son of the late John Edward Brittingham and Frances Dinges Brittingham. He is survived by his two daughters, Christie Brittingham of Berlin, and Kim Brittingham Kerr and husband William of Forked River, N.J. There are three grandchildren, Phillip Littleton and his wife Kristen, Seth Booker and Taylor Booker. Also surviving is a great granddaughter, Makenzie Littleton. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Debbie Brittingham, and his faithful companion, Susie.

He was a graduate of Stephen Decatur High School and was employed with the Maryland Department of Agriculture for 39 years where he had worked as a supervisor with mosquito control.

He was a member of the Berlin Volunteer Fire Co., Delmarva Coon Hunters Association, Assateague Mobile Sports Fisherman’s Association, a coach for the Berlin Little League, an avid softball player, fishing enthusiast and horseman.

David Vernon ‘Doc’ Wible

MILFORD, Del. – David Vernon ‘Doc’ Wible, 69, died at the Delaware Hospice in Milford after a long battle with lung cancer.

He leaves behind his wife of many years, Joan, along with a sister, Lynn and a brother, Steve. He also leaves his children, Heather, Tanya, Stacey, Eric, Steven and Jeffrey; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was a Vietnam veteran and a member of both the Moose Lodge and the Elks Club. He will be remembered by his many friends as “D.J. Doctor Dave” at various clubs and bars. He loved Nascar and the Baltimore Ravens. He will be cremated and a memorial service will be held in his memory at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the local humane society.

Dwight Douglas Williams

OCEAN CITY – Dwight “Doug” Williams passed away on Sept. 3, 2009 at his home in Ocean City.

Born in Salisbury on April 8, 1957, he was the son of Ralph Henry Williams and the late Shirley Amelia Martinez. Doug worked for many years for the Admiral Hotel/Motel and the Rodeway Inn in Ocean City.

He loved his family very much and was particularly proud of his Mustang.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his step-mother, Gladys Williams; his son, Christopher Smith; his step-father, Humberto Martinez; his brother, Edward Williams Sr.; his sister, Donna Scott and husband Freddy Scott; and two nephews, Edward Williams Jr. and Jonathon Williams.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at Burbage Funeral Home on Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. Friends may call one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-5216.

Evelyn S. Hopkins

BERLIN – Evelyn S. Hopkins of Kennedyville, Md., died Tuesday Sept. 8, 2009 in the Atlantic General Hospital. She was 83.

Hopkins was born in Crumpton the daughter of the late George and Maude Squares.

Hopkins was the owner-operator of the Mayflower Hotel on the Boardwalk in Ocean City from 1955 thru 1984. She continued to own and operate the King Charles Apts. in Ocean City with her family. She loved her work and enjoyed meeting and greeting all of her guests and friends. Hopkins also enjoyed her ladies card group whom she played with for many years.

In addition to her parents, Hopkins was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John “Jack” Hopkins, a son, George B. Hopkins and his wife Patti of Kennedyville; a granddaughter, Leslie H. Mitchell and her husband Wayne of Milton, Del.; two grandsons, Brad Hopkins of Chestertown and Barton Hopkins of Kennedyville; and great grandchildren Madison and Tyler Mitchell of Milton, Del.

Marian Ramsey Shaner

RURAL HALL, N.C. – On Sept. 5, 2009, Marian Ramsey Shaner, beloved wife of the late Dr. Edward Shaner, passed away peacefully in the tender loving care of her children, Judy Davis, Barbara Merckel and Ramsey Shaner, in her Stanleyville, N.C. home.

She is also survived by her brother, Ira Ramsey; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A private memorial service has been held. Donations may be made in her memory and sent to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103

Nancy R. Miller

OCEAN PINES – Nancy Ruth Miller, 76, of Ocean Pines, died Sept. 11, 2009 after a short illness in Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

She was the daughter of Arthur June and Ruth Baker Monroe Miller. She is survived by a niece, Coralie Miller and Ming Zhang; a nephew, Paul Miller and Jeannette Miller; two grand-nieces, Sarah Miller and Caleigh Miller; and one grand-nephew, Paul Miller.

She was formerly employed as a manager by Verizon/AT&T for 38 years prior to retiring and moving to Ocean City in 1990.  Miller was a world traveler, traveling around the world multiple times, loved cruises and cross-country road trips. She enjoyed her favorite hobby of painting and was known as the “Lucky One” at bingo and was lucky in Atlantic City. She was a breast cancer survivor for many years.

Services were held. Arrangements by The Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Frank "Sonny" Ancheta Jr.

BERLIN – On Aug, 30, 2009, Frank "Sonny" Ancheta Jr., 66, of Berlin, and formerly of Baltimore and Hawaii, passed away at Atlantic General Hospital.

He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 29, 1943 to Frank Dumlao Ancheta Sr. and Elizabeth Kaila Ancheta.

He was of Hawaiian-Filipino descent. He grew up on the Hawaiian Island of Lanai until he joined the Army in 1967. Army transfer and training at Ft. Meade and Aberdeen Proving Ground brought him to the Baltimore area. He served honorably and proudly in Vietnam in 1968-69. After the military, he was for several years a steeplejack for Tower Maintenance of Baltimore.

In 1980, he moved to Berlin where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and cooking. He expressed his happy attitude by laughing, joking, singing, and whistling. He was employed by the Harrison Group of Ocean City for 24 years where he made many friends over the years. He was known as Frankie in Hawaii and Sonny in Maryland. He loved all his family both here and Hawaii very much.

He was the much beloved husband and soul mate of Savannah Spencer Ancheta of Berlin for 33 years. Loving father to son, Justin Ancheta of Berlin and daughters Lorna Ancheta Hacker, Miriam Ancheta Reeping, and Leilani Ancheta, all of Baltimore. He was the cherished grandfather to four granddaughters Mimi, Stephanie, Chelsea and Morgan, also of Baltimore. He had a fatherly and grandfatherly relationship with Linda White and her daughter Sierra and Cindy Holtzapple. He was beloved brother to three sisters, Ermenia Ancheta, Dianna (Momi) Via and Susana Valdez.

He was the much loved brother-in law of Charlene Jones Robertson and uncle to her sons Christopher Jackson and Patrick Robertson. He was loving uncle to Ginger Kaila Theiss, and many other neices, nephews and cousins. Also cherished nephew to Josephine "Auntie Bully" Haupu.
