Alfred Joseph Moran

BERLIN – On Aug. 28, 2009, Alfred “Al” Joseph Moran, 87, of Berlin and formally of Baltimore, passed away.

He was the beloved husband of the late Anne S. Moran; loving father of Patricia Saiia and her husband Robert, Susan Horn and her husband Michael, Nancy Long and Jeffrey and Steven Moran and his wife Regina; cherished grandfather of Lisa Saiia, Christina Truitt, Kim Hall, Christopher Moran, Amanda Long, Moranda Horn and Michael Horn; loving great-grandfather of Evan Truitt, Hayden Truitt, Jacob Hall, Tyler Hall, and Ryot Moran; and beloved brother of Eleanor Baum, William Moran, and the late Lillian Teta. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

A Mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Nativity, 20 E. Ridgely Road, Timonium, Md. at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. John the Baptist Church, Poor Box, 315 N. Constitution Avenue, New Freedom, Pa. 17349 or the Sisters of Mercy at the Villa, 6806 Bellona Avenue, Baltimore, Md. 21212.

Ollie Ray Powell

BERLIN — Ollie Ray Powell, 87, of Berlin died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Genesis Nursing Home in Salisbury. 

He was born in Taylorville on March 24, 1922, to the late Orlie and Mildred Minor Powell.

He was a waterman and avid hunter. He was a member of the Salisbury Moose Lodge and the East Side Men’s Club. He was a retired brick mason.

He is survived by his son, Alvin Powell, and his wife, Coralee, of Ocean Pines; a daughter, Jeanne, and her husband, Walt Cohee, of Mardela Springs; two brothers, Dale Powell and his wife, Jane, of Berlin and Richard Powell of North Carolina; a sister, Daisy Potzman of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Kris Cohee, Chuck Powell, Kelly Vaney and Stacy Powell; seven great-grandchildren; his first wife, Pauline Powell of Selbyville; and sister-in-law, Georgia of North Carolina.

In addition to his late wife, Thelma Powell, he was preceded in death by his son, Ollie C. Powell; his grandson, SSGT Walter (Trae) Cohee III; a brother, Harold Powell; brother-in-law, Elmer D Potzman; and sister-in-law, Ruth Powell.

Funeral services were held and interment followed in Taylorville Cemetery. 
Arrangements are under the care of Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
