Monday, Aug. 10-Noted Pediatrician Succumbs To Injuries

BERLIN – Dr. Jose F Alvarado, a prominent Salisbury pediatrician who touched thousands of lives during his life, passed away at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center on Aug. 8, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident three days earlier.

According to a press release issued by Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC), where Alvarado was chief of pediatrics, the community can pay its respects on Tuesday, Aug. 11 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church in Salisbury. A mass in celebration of Alvarado’s life will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Jose F. Alvarado Foundation in care of the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore, 801 North Salisbury Blvd Suite 202 Salibsury, Md. 21801. This foundation will continue Alvarado’s vision of service to the children of the community.

The medical practice of Dr. Alvarado and Associates will continue to provide medical care to Alvarado’s patients.

On Saturday, PRMC President Peggy Naleppa issued the following statement:

“Peninsula Regional Medical Center, its staff, volunteers and physicians are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Jose “Joe” Alvarado, who died earlier today at the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Shock Trauma unit in Baltimore from injuries sustained in an automobile accident earlier this week.

“Dr. Alvarado was a dedicated physician leader, an outstanding pediatrician and a well loved, admired and respected member of our Medical Staff.  Dr. Alvarado, who joined the Peninsula Regional family in 1988, had served as our Chief of Pediatrics since 2006.  It was a role in which he excelled, and his knowledge and vision was invaluable in the clinical advancement and growth of our Pediatric Unit during his tenure as its Chief.

“We join with the thousands of his current and past patients, friends, loved ones, his wife and children in mourning his passing and celebrating the life of an exceptional physician, friend, husband and father.”
