Bruce William Hudson

OCEAN CITY – Bruce William Hudson, age 54, died Monday, July 6, 2009 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Willis "Cottontop” Hudson and Norma Cropper Hudson.

He is survived by a nephew, Jeremy Hudson and his girlfriend, Lindsey George, of Ocean City; a sister-in-law and caregiver, Sue Ann Hudson of Berlin; a cousin and caregiver, Karen Hazzard; an aunt, Christine Walston of Salisbury; numerous cousins; and best friend Christopher Miller of Islamorada, Fla.

Hudson was a graduate of Stephen Decatur High School Class of 1972. He had been a musician for many years playing in the Hudson Brothers Band and the Hudson Miller Band. He retired from the Worcester County Liquor Control Board, had worked at Myers Tool Rental in Berlin and was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Ocean City and Alcoholics Anonymous.

A memorial service will be held at the Burbage Funeral Home on Sunday, July 12 at 3 p.m.

Phillip D. Crafton

OCEAN CITY – On Saturday, July 4, 2009, Phillip D. Crafton passed from this life into the Heaven triumphant.

He was born on Feb. 4, 1938 in Louisville, Kent. He was the son of Harry and Mayoma Hodges Crafton. He was the beloved husband of Johanne Crafton. He was a devoted step-father of Linda Tucker and her husband Bruce Binder, John Tucker and his wife Jeanne, Nancy Thompson and her husband Carl. He was a devoted father Kelly Welch and her husband Scott and Casey Crafton and his wife Lisa. He is predeceased by his son, Christopher Crafton. He was a adored grandfather of Nicole, Kelsey, Kayla, Zachary, Christopher, McKenzie, Gabriella, Blair and Matthew. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Crafton as a lithographer for NOAA through Federal Government where he worked until he retired. He was employed at Walmart in Berlin as the door greeter. Crafton served his church as a Stephen’s Minister, caring for the sick and homebound. He loved his family, 1950’s nostalgia, dancing and greeting the community at Walmart.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 10 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 10301 Coastal Highway, Ocean City at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.

Cheryl Brice Moore

OCEAN CITY – Cheryl Brice Moore, 47, of Ocean City, was welcomed into Heaven by Nana and the Lord on Sunday morning, July 5, 2009.

For over 22 years, she was an office manager for Phillips Crab House at 141st Street in Ocean City.

Kind in spirit, dedicated to the love of her life, Bruce, and her family of associates at Phillips, she was innately talented, inordinately bright and generous to a fault. She graduated from Indian River High School in 1980 with honors and received her Associate in Arts degree from Delaware Technical and Community College in 1982 also with honors.

She enjoyed working with her hands, creating lovely shell artistry and crochet work.

She is survived by her beloved companion of many years, Bruce Holland; her mother, Maxine McWhorter Ungerbuehler; stepfather, Chuck Ungerbuehler; father, Charles H. Brice, III; step mother, Joanne Brice; sister, Bette Ann Brice Brasure and her husband Darrell E. Brasure; and brother, Shane M. Brice.

Her grandparents, Harold Meeds McWhorter and Helen Ball McWhorter, Mary Rambo Brice Fischetti, Charles H. Brice, II, and her niece, Nicole Elizabeth Brasure, preceded her in death.

These words so aptly describe Moore’s love for her companion, “I wish for you a life of 100 years; and, for myself, 100 years less one day for my life is with you.”

A celebration of life will be held Friday, July 10 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street in Frankford, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be in Christ Church of Milford Churchyard Cemetery.

Ann Horner Granados

OCEAN CITY – Ann Horner Granados of Ocean City died on July 5, 2009 at her home.

Born in Baltimore on April 29, 1935, she was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Herbert E. Reifschneider, and attended the Calvert and Bryn Mawr schools.

Active in her community, she was a member of the Leadership, Public Relations and Campaign Committee of the National Federation of Republican Women and the U.S. Coordinator of the Democratic Women’s Union and Capital City Women’s Union of Mongolia. Since 1981, she has chaired the Ocean City Dune Stabilization Committee, a citizens’ action group largely responsible for the creation and maintenance of Ocean City’s secondary dune system. She also chaired the Ocean City’s Concerned Citizens for Good Government.

She is a member of the Levin Winder Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Junior League of Baltimore.

A Republican activist, she served as chairman of the Worcester County Republican Committee for six years, the president of the Maryland Federation of Republican Women and president of the Republican Women of Worcester County. She was a delegate to the 2004 Republican National Convention, a member of the 2004 Electoral College and Worcester County Coordinator of the Ehrlich for Governor Campaigns of 2002 and 2006, and all of the Gilchrest for Congress campaigns.

Locally, she served as chairman of the Ocean City Noise Control Board, the Ocean City Fire Safety Task Force and the Ocean City Cable TV Franchise Committee. She was Vice Chairman of the Worcester County Tax Assessment Appeals Board and a member of the Governor’s Commission on Condominiums, Cooperatives and Homeowners Associations.

From 1977 through 1988, she managed the Sea Watch Condominium, with 400 units, the largest in Ocean City.

Her awards include the Governor’s Volunteer Award in 1994 and 1995 for Dune Stabilization; Outstanding Contributor award from the Maryland Association of Conservation Districts; a Commendation from the Worcester County Commissioners; a Commendation and two Certificates of Appreciation from the Town of Ocean City; and Senior Alumnae of the Year from Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Luis Granados; five children; and 10 grandchildren. Children include John and Jody Horner of Lillian, Ala.; Deeds Horner of Blakeley, Ga.; James and Paula Horner of Bluffton, S.C.: Luis and Pat Granados of Washington, D.C. and Elaine and Rick Stewart of Schellsburg, Pa. Grandchildren include Reid, Ann and James Pierce, Cassie Curry, Morgan Bengal, John Horner, Beci Granados, and Ricky, Meredith and Jacob Stewart.

Alda Marlin Noftsinger

LEWES, Del. – Alda Marlin Noftsinger, age 82, died Friday, July 3, 2009 at Cadbury at Lewes, Del.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Benjamin Noftsinger, and two sons, John Noftsinger and Robert Benjamin Noftsinger, Jr.

She is survived by her two daughters, Leslie Noftsinger Coates and husband Raymond D. Coates, Jr. of Berlin and Nan Noftsinger Monday and husband Thomas G. Monday of Fairfax Station, Va. There are four grandchildren, Lindsey Coates Brown of McLean, Va., Lauren Coates of Berlin, Tyler Monday and Zach Monday of Fairfax Station, Va. Also surviving is a sister, Dorothy M. Barger of Stuart, Fla. and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters.

Noftsinger was born on a farm on the James River near Goochland, Va. She was a graduate of the University of Richmond. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, Sunday school teacher, member of the American Association of University Women and New Century Club of Newark, Del. Additionally, she was active with The ARC of Delaware and was an avid bridge player and gardener. She was formerly of Wilmington, Del. and Richmond, Va.

Elizabeth Teresa Litz

OCEAN CITY – Elizabeth “Betty” Teresa Litz died Friday July 3, 2009 at Coastal Hospice in Salisbury.

She was born Feb. 27, 1923 in Washington D.C. to the late Francis J. McDermott and Sophia Deck McDermott.

She was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries.

She is survived by her son, Leonard A. Jameson Jr. and his wife Patricia; step-son, Roy Courtney Litz Jr. and his wife Susan; daughters, Donna A. Conway and her husband Gerald, Deborah M. Herbert and her husband Steven, and Gayle L. Clare and her husband David; sisters Margaret Finamore and Rita Atkins and her husband William; sister-in-law Norma McDermott; 32 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends. She is predeceased by her husbands, Leonard A. Jameson and Roy Courtney Litz; brother, Joseph McDermott; and sisters, Dorothy Terry and Grace Lowe.

Betty Jean Grant

WILLARDS – Betty Jean Grant, 62, of Willards, died July 2, 2009 at her home.

She was born May 6, 1947 in Powellville to the late Lester and Della May Parsons.

She worked for several years in housekeeping and day care. She enjoyed many things in her life, to include cooking, gardening, home decorating and shopping. Her greatest enjoyment was taking wonderful care of the many people she loved. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester Robert and Della May Parsons; her step-mother, Mary Anne Parsons; her brothers Richard and Charles Parsons; and her "buddy" Delores Merritt.

 She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Scott Grant of Willards; her eldest son and his family, David and Jessie Parsons of Ocean Pines and their children Rafe and Kendahl Parsons; her youngest son, Shane Grant of Baltimore; her devoted aunt, Louise Truitt of Willards; her brother, Howard Parsons and his wife Snookie Parsons of Salisbury; her sister, Anna Melson and her husband JD Melson of Pittsville; her aunt, Gladys Warren of Snow Hill; several nieces and nephews; and beloved family friends DuWayne, Dani, Jordan and Chase Pillsbury of Pittsville and Steve Hsin of Columbia.

James Benton Childers

FENWICK ISLAND – James Benton "Jack" Childers, 82, of Fenwick Island died Friday June 19, 2009, of pneumonia at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

Born Nov. 24, 1926, in Johnson City, Tenn., he was the son of the late James Benton Childers Sr. and Julia Clara McCorkle Childers.

Jack lived for many years in South Florida and the Florida Keys and he attended Miami High School, Fork Union Military Academy and Miami University. In 1944, he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and was assigned to the Destroyer Escort US Tweety 532 and he returned to duty during the Korean War.

Among his many accomplishments, Jack served as Dade County deputy sheriff for many years, founded Biscayne Shell Jewelry Co. and worked for Carrib Novelties in Miami, selling shell jewelry and novelties, and was an innovator in the souvenir industry and a pioneer in establishing popular gift shows for wholesale trade.

Over the years, he also owned many businesses in Ocean City, including the 64th Street Shell Shop & Laundromat, Souvenir City and Inlet Gifts on the Boardwalk and the Shell Shack at Shanty Town. Today, the family owns Sea Shell City in Fenwick Island.

While living in the Florida Keys, he owned the charter boat "Cindy-C" and enjoyed fishing, entertaining, family reunions, working in his garden and growing tomatoes. He also enjoyed genealogy, for which he was very knowledgeable. However, most important of all, he loved his family and enjoyed family reunions.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Helen Lucinda "Cindy" Childers of Fenwick Island; two daughters, Virginia Childers Davidson (Ronald) of Bishopville and Jackie Childers of Selbyville; and two grandsons, James Davidson and William Childers.

Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Jack’s life Tuesday, July 14 from noon-3 p.m. at Harpoon Hannas in Fenwick Island.

BERLIN – Barbara Jean Jacobson died on July 5, 2009 

She was beloved wife of the late William Peyser Jacobson; devoted mother of Michael P. Jacobson and Stacy Jacobson Ice; loving grandmother of Aaron and Adam Jacobson; and dear sister of JoAnne Coleman, Robert Johnson, Sandra Lamb and Linda Reinke.

Family will receive friends Saturday, July 11 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Harry H. Witzke’s Family Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, Md.  where a funeral service will be held Sunday 11 a.m. Interment will be National Memorial Park at King David Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
