June 17-Pro Volleyball Players Eye Resort

OCEAN CITY Some of the top names in professional beach volleyball will be in town this weekend for the AVP Crocs Tour Ocean City Open.

The tournament is set to take place June 19-21 on the beach in Ocean City. The world’s best beach volleyball players, including 2008 Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, will take to the sand to see who reigns supreme.

Tickets are available at www.avp.com. Friday’s Main Draw session is now free to the public, while Saturday and Sunday’s prices have been dropped. General admission tickets for Saturday and Sunday are $10, courtside seating is $25, and tickets for youths under 18 are $5.

Saturday also features the weekend’s best value, Family Day: four General Admission tickets, four Johnsonville bratwursts and four sodas, all for $30. Additionally, fans who wear their club, high school, college, or youth volleyball jerseys will receive $5 tickets.

The three-day, double elimination tournament combines elite athletic competition with a beach party atmosphere.

In addition to Dalhausser and Rogers, top players and 2008 Beijing Olympians Nicole Branagh, Elaine Youngs, Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal will compete.

An open qualifier will take place tomorrow, Thursday, June 18, while Main Draw play begins Friday, June 19 and will conclude with both men’s and women’s finals on Sunday, June 21.

“We are thrilled to bring the tour to Ocean City for the first time,” said Lauren Decker, Senior Director of Marketing for AVP Pro Beach Volleyball. “We know that bringing our sport’s West Coast vibe to the East Coast will be great for our athletes and our fans, and Ocean City is the perfect venue for us.”

After Ocean City’s stop, the AVP Crocs Tour will continue July 3-5 in Coney Island, N.Y.
