Decatur to Face Easton in States

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team righted the ship last week, beating Kent Island, 18-5, after losing three straight to gain some momentum heading into the state playoffs.

The Seahawks had fallen to Queen Anne’s, Parkside and Easton going into last Friday’s game with Kent Island. In the regular season finale, Decatur rediscovered its stride and cruised to the relatively easy 18-5 win over the Buccaneers. Calvin Snyder led the offense with five goals, while Tyler Bollinger and Ben Kelleher pitched in four goals each.

Decatur, which finished the regular season with a 6-5 record, earned a number-six seed in the state Class 3A-2A East region tournament when the brackets were announced this week. The Seahawks got a first-round bye and will face a familiar foe in Easton in the second round on the road tomorrow at 10 a.m. Decatur lost to Easton, 14-7, last Wednesday.

Should Decatur find a way to get past Easton, the Seahawks would play the winner of the second-round match-up between Kent Island and Annapolis. Should Annapolis beat Easton, Decatur could get a home game next week because Annapolis is the lower seed at number seven. Of course, that scenario includes a lot of ifs including the Seahawks beating the Warriors tomorrow.
