BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity basketball teams start post-season play tonight with the boys staying home for a game against Northeast of Anne Arundel County and the girls hitting the road for a first-round game against Reservoir.

The state Class 3A-East region tournament seeds were announced this week with both Decatur teams getting rewarded for their late season surges. The Seahawk boys are the number-eight seed in the Class 3A-East region tournament and will host ninth-seeded Northeast of Anne Arundel County tonight at 5 p.m.

The Seahawks finished with an overall record of 6-15, but ended the season strong, winning their last three games and four of their last five, to earn the eight-seed in the tournament. Their first-round match-up appears to feature two teams heading in opposite directions. Northeast finished the season with a 5-16 record and closed out its regular season with six straight losses. Northeast’s last win came way back on January 30.

The Decatur girls finished the regular season with a 7-15 record, but also finished strong to earn the number-eight seed in their Class 3A-East region tournament. They will face seventh-seeded Reservoir in the first round on the road tonight in a match-up of teams that appear to be getting hot at the right time of the year.

Decatur finished the regular season winning four of its last five games and five of the last seven. Similarly, Reservoir closed out its regular season with a record of 14-8 and also won four of its last five games. Whoever emerges victorious will face a tough opponent in the second round. Second-seeded Howard awaits the winner of the Decatur-Reservoir game in the second round.
