Rita Inez Harris

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Rita Inez Harris, age 86, died, Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2008 in Cambridge, Mass.

Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Schaub and Anna Busch Schaub. She was preceded in death by her husband George L. Harris, Sr. in 1988.

Harris had worked as a secretary for many years with the District of Columbia Unemployment Board for lawyers, administrators and managers in the public sector. She was a member of St. Mary/Holy Savior Catholic Church in Ocean City for over 20 years, serving as Parish Secretary, Eucharistic Minister and Annual Bizarre Coordinator. She recently received the Metal of Honor from the Diocese of Wilmington, Del. for her work and devotion to the Catholic Church. She was much loved by her family and friends for her generous spirit and her commitment to others.

She is survived by a son, George L. Harris, Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Cambridge, Mass.; a son-in-law, John Bozzi of Waldorf, Md.; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher and Michelle Harris and Elizabeth and Kevin Bozzi; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Elizabeth Bozzi in 1990.

Services were held. Donations may be made to St. Mary/Holy Savior Catholic Church, 1705 Philadelphia Ave., Ocean City, Md. 21842.

Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

William Roger Peddicord

BERLIN – William Roger Peddicord, age 85, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 at Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin.

Born in Baltimore, Md. he was the son of the late William Peddicord and Ruth White.

He is survived by his son, James Rodger Peddicord and his wife Darlene of Berlin; his daughters, Deborah Crawford and Christina Lewis and her husband Ronnie; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Laverne and Betty. William was married to the late Elizabeth Jane Constantine.

Peddicord was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, He liked to
go crabbing and was an artist who drew faces. He was also employed as a greeter at Wal-Mart.
Cremation followed his death. No formal services are planned at this time.
Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Snow Hill.

Alwyn B. Colwell

SELBYVILLE, Del – Alwyn B. Colwell, 95, of Selbyville, Del. and formerly of Canada, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 at her residence.

 Since moving from Canada, she had made her home with her daughter Marie in Selbyville. Mrs. Colwell was born in Penge, London, England to the late Harry and Emily (Pout) Brown. 

She was a member of St. Martin’s In-The-Field Episcopal Church, the Ocean City Senior Center, Daughters of the British Empires and The Very Important Persons Senior Support Group. She will be lovingly remembered by the Terrill family, Trevor Abbott and many other friends.

 She is survived by one daughter, Marie C. Whear (David); a sister, Marie Thompson of Manchester, England; two grandchildren, Michael Whear (Gail) and Pamela Whear; three great grandchildren, Julene Williamson (Mark), Jillian Gamble and Adam Whear; and one great great grandchild, Baylie Williamson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grenville Colwell in 1979.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, Feb. 14 at St. Martin’s In-The-Field Episcopal Church, West Church St., Selbyville, Del. with Father David Archibald officiating.

Agnes Gertrude Mitchell

BERLIN – Agnes Gertrude Mitchell, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 at Catered Living of Ocean Pines.

Born in Leominster, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Carl Tyler and Gertrude Donahue Tyler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Mitchell in 2001; a son, George L. Elliott in 1987; and a son-in-law, Bryan Humphrey in 2003.

Mitchell had worked for many years as a telephone operator with C&P Telephone retiring from Bell Atlantic in 2001. She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, the Telephone Pioneers and a volunteer at the Joseph House in Salisbury.

She is survived by her daughter Kathryn A. Humphrey of Ocean Pines; two sons, Michael F. Mitchell and his wife Christine of Rhodesdale, Md. and Joseph P. Mitchell and his wife Gina of Berlin; two sisters, Margaret Mazzilli and Helen Tyler both of Ocean Pines; five grand children; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Ocean Pines. Friends may call at church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at a future date at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Md.
