BERLIN- Worcester Prep boys’ varsity basketball team’s topsy-turvy season continued this week with a split in its last four games including a dramatic win over host Seaford Christian, 39-38, on Tuesday after a tough loss at home to Chincoteague, 37-24, on Monday.

The Mallards record now stands at just 6-7 on the season, but it could have swung one game or so in either direction the way the season has gone thus far. After a tough loss to visiting Chincoteague on Monday, Worcester Prep rallied for a gutsy one-point win on the road against Seaford Christian the very next day.

The Mallards trailed by a point with the clock ticking down in the fourth quarter when Parker McIntosh scored on a lay-up with just five seconds left on the clock to steal the 39-38 win. McIntosh finished the game with a team-high 18 points and added 11 rebounds, while Justin Butler scored eight points and grabbed five boards in the contest.

The win completed a wild sequence of games at the start of 2009 for Worcester during which it won two and lost two. In its first game after the holidays last Wednesday, the Mallards were hammered by Salisbury School, 60-38, although the outcome was much better than the first time they played the Dragons. Salisbury School trounced Worcester, 61-19, back in December.

Worcester responded to the loss last Wednesday to Salisbury School by beating Gunston at home last Friday, 40-22. On Monday, the Mallards hosted Chincoteague and fell, 37-24, before getting back in the win column on Tuesday with the last second win over Delmarva Christian.

The four game sequence over the last week represents a microcosm of sorts for Worcester’s season thus far, which has seen the Mallards flirt with the .500 mark. Their record now stands at 6-7 on the year, during which the Mallards have a four-game winning streak and a three-game losing streak.

Worcester will not play again until February 2 when they hit the road for a game against Salisbury Christian. They finish with a home game against Delmarva Christian followed by road game against Gunston.
