Charles Lee Disharoon
OCEAN CITY – Charles Lee Disharoon, 84, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 at PRMC in Salisbury. He was born in Hebron and grew up in Randallstown.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jackie Beamer Disharoon; his stepmother, Dorotha Disharoon; three children, Yvonne, Donald, and Camie Disharoon; two sisters, Margaret Rosenberger and Alice Johnston and husband Charles; and a brother, Donald D. Disharoon and his wife Marcia. He is also survived by his cats, Krista and Sabrina.
Disharoon served in the Army-Air Core 508 Fighter Group in World War II. He had over 30 years with Chesapeake Potomac Verizon as a lineman, an engineer and finally as auditor-evaluator for three states and DC. He also did poultry feasibility studies for countries in the mideast. He then worked over 31 years in real estate, primarily Ocean City, building numerous buildings. Prior to his retirement, he was broker/owner of Seagate Sales and Rentals.
His various community activities over the years included being Head of the Rescue Squad at the Sandy Hill Fire Dept.; Lions Club and American Legion and he volunteered at his children’s schools.
A celebration of his life will be held at the American Legion Post 166 on 24th St. and Philadelphia Ave. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008 from 2-4 p.m.

Elizabeth M. Holston
OCEAN CITY – Elizabeth M. Holston (nee Taylor), 94, passed away at Coastal Hospice at the Lake on Nov. 4, 2008.
Born in San Francisco, Ca., she traveled to Baltimore with a scholarship to the Peabody Conservatory where she met and married Alvan Holston. She had a successful career with the Baltimore Symphony and with the Carol Dore quartet at the Belvedere Hotel. Later Holston became a teacher with the Baltimore County School System. She was a volunteer for Trinity Episcopal Church in Towson and Johns Hopkins University. Her and her husband moved to Ocean Pines and after her husband passed away she moved to Ocean City with her daughter.
Holston was an avid seamstress and needleworker. During the past few years, she spent her days at the Arbor in Ocean Pines covering metal hangers with yarn.
She is survived by a son, Alvan M. Holston and his wife of Oxford, Md.; a daughter, JeriLyn Andrews and her husband of Berlin; and two nieces, Kathy Snider and her husband and Dorothea Grisbach, both of Baltimore. Memorial donations may be made to Worcester County Humane Society.
Ira Laurence Adkins
BERLIN – Ira Laurence Adkins, Sr., age 61, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008 at
Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late William and Virginia Brittingham Adkins. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Joan Hearne Adkins in 2006. He is survived by three daughters, Lisa Adkins Groton and her husband Ronnie of Pace, Fla., Beth Adkins of Willards and Laura Adkins Hill and her husband Joe of Charlotte, N.C.: a son, Laurence Adkins, Jr. of Willards; a sister, Maureen Smith and her husband Steve of West Point, Va.; a niece, Kara and Brian Smith and their son Will of West Point, Va.; a sister-in-law, Lynn Ziesing of Berlin; a brother-in-law, William Milton Hearne III and his wife Cathy of Pittsville; four granddaughters, Michaela and Delaney Hill and Hanah and Gabriela Groton; and several nieces and nephews.
Adkins was a graduate of Pittsville High School in 1965. He had worked for many years as a mechanic with Delmarva Lawn and Power Equipment Company in Willards. He was a Past Master and member of Evergreen Masonic Lodge #153 AF & AM in Berlin since 1969.
He had been a poultry grower and farmer for many years. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Delores Margaret Taylor
OCEAN CITY – Delores Margaret Taylor, age 70, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
Born in Pensacola, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Dennis A. Weeks and Bernice F. Weeks.
Taylor had been a logistics manager with the Department of Defense. She was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Ocean City and AARP.
She is survived by her husband Matthew Mark Taylor; four sons, Mark Taylor and his wife Lauren of Foothill Ranch, Calif., Michael Taylor and his wife Kay of Brisbane, Australia, David Taylor and his wife Eunjung of Seoul, South Korea, and Allan Taylor and his wife Donna of Ocean Pines; one daughter, Monica Richardson of Bethesda; a sister, Joyce A. Weeks of Ocean City; and 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two children, Paul Taylor and Trudy Taylor.

BERLIN – Donald Owen Vermillion, Sr., age 80, of Berlin and Ocean City, Md., died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Baltimore he was the son of the late Roy B. Vermillion and Dorothy Victoria Sands Vermillion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Elaine Ryan Vermillion. He is survived by two sons, Donald "Donnie" Owen Vermillion, Jr. and his wife Angelia of Hummelstown, Pa. and Robert "Bobby" Ryan Vermillion and his wife Angela of Berlin. There is one grandson Eric Vermillion of Dayton, Ohio.
Vermillion had worked for over 30 years for the Baltimore Uniform Co. and after retirement worked for Rommel’s Ace Hardware in Ocean City. Vermillion was a Navy veteran and a harness racing enthusiast.

Stephen A. Russell
OCEAN CITY – Stephen A. Russell, Jr., age 67, died on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008 at the Berlin Nursing Home.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa. he was the son of the late Stephen A. Russell, Sr. and Virginia Mohler Russell. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Russell; two sons, Stephen Russell of
Pittsburgh, Pa. and David Russell and his wife Shanon of Levittown, Pa.; three daughters, Sharon Messman and her husband John, Cheryl Russell and Debbie Russell, all of Pittsburgh; one sister, Carol Kominski of Ocean Side, Calif.; one brother-in-law, Eugene W. Jackson, Jr. and his wife Betty; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Charles Edward Bowen
SNOW HILL – Charles Edward Bowen, age 72, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Newark, he was the son of the late Harry Wilmer Bowen, II and Irma Esham Bowen.
He is survived by his wife Roberta Virginia Baker Bowen; two sons, Charles E. Bowen, II and his wife Mary of Hanahan, S.C. and James Russell Bowen and his wife Susan of Snow Hill; three grandchildren; a brother, Harry W. Bowen, III and his wife Gloria of Sachse, Texas; a sister, Ruth Warrington and her husband Wayne of Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews.
Bowen and his wife had owned and operated Bowen Grocery Store in Snow Hill for 33 years. He was a Worcester County school bus driver, a member of the Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Co. for over 20 years and a member of the Salisbury Shrine and Sinepuxent Masonic Lodge #193 in Snow Hill.
