Election time is over for Ocean City and the dust is beginning to settle. The recent election cycle was of special interest to me this go round because for the first time in 12 years I wasn’t personally involved – other than being an interested, voting citizen. I chose not to run for the council again because I felt it was time for me to move on.
I don’t want to rehash the past 12 years. It was a great honor for me to serve the town. Every decision I made was based on what I believed to be in the best interest of the entire town. I don’t believe I ever played favorites or tried to "please" any segment of the public. There are a couple of votes I might reconsider but for the most part I’m happy with my record.
I am so grateful to those who voted for me. It swelled my heart, not my head, to think that there were people who entrusted their town to me. It’s difficult to express the feeling unless you’ve been elected to public office.
One of the most enduring and positive outcomes of my 12 years is the friends I’ve made. The countless folks who have a smile and a kind word for me. I run into them all over town. I’ve also made some great friends who work for the city. Their help and support for the past 12 years has been invaluable. We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated group of people working for us.
My direction will now shift but only slightly. My plans are to continue working for the various groups and organizations I’ve been working for for years. I’ll be out and about and look forward to keeping Ocean City the wonderful place it is.

Animals Need Change

While picking our new president was uppermost in our minds last week the citizens of California were so concerned about the horrible conditions farm animals endure that they overwhelmingly passed a law governing their treatment.
We have made it known that we want change in our government. It’s time for us to change the way we treat helpless animals who are bred and slaughtered for our food.
Most of us aren’t aware that veal calves spend their lives in crates so small they can’t move and are kept in an anemic state their short lives; that pregnant pigs just lay in a small pen until they give birth and then start over. Laying hens live out their entire work life on a space the size of a sheet of paper.
The Humane Society, Farm Sanctuary and Physicians for Responsible Medicine are some of the organizations that will be working to pass similar laws in other states. Lets get involved and make a change for the animals.
