Virginia Lewis (Scott) Bachman

BERLIN – Virginia Lewis (Scott) Bachman passed away on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008.

She was born in Parksley on April 18, 1919. Her family moved to Baltimore in 1922. During the Depression, the family moved to Ocean City. She graduated from Ocean City High School in 1936. After high school, she married Isaac John Scott. "Ike" and "Gini" had two sons, Stuart and Bruce, the joys of their lives.

She married John Lynn Bachman in 1975, and explored many new facets of her life. She and John loved art and sold many of their unique creations which gave them the chance to do extensive traveling in the US and Europe.

Surviving are her son, Stuart Scott and his wife, Ruth, and her son, Bruce and his fiancée, Lucille Fox; her nephew, Ronald Warren and his wife, Ellen and their family; her grandchild, Bruce Scott Jr.; and her great-grandchildren, Meredith and Marin, Kimberly Scott-Hensley and her husband, Joe, Haleigh, Andrew Scott and his wife, Bernice, Avery, Michael Scott and his wife, Rebecca, Oliver, Stephanie O’Neil and her husband, Harry, John, Jacob, Megan, Samuel, Anna and Emily.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Cecie Lewis; her half-brother, Merrill Steedman; her sister, Mary Warren; her beloved husband, John Bachman; her former husband, Isaac Scott; and daughter-in-law, Charlotte Scott.

A memorial service will be held at Community Church in Ocean Pines at 3 p.m. Sunday. There will be a reception following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the library at Community Church of Ocean Pines, 11227 Racetrack Road, Berlin, Md., 21811.

Arrangements are being handled by Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Betty Lee Hitchens Rappaport

OCEAN CITY — Betty Lee Hitchens Rappaport, 83, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at Atlantic General Hospital.

Born in Ocean City, she was a daughter of the late Jonathon Lawrence and Ellen Lynch Hitchens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Rappaport, in 1985.

Rappaport had worked in sales at the Christmas Shop and Beach Blossoms in Ocean City. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ocean City.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Royal and her beloved companion, Bill Smith, of Ocean City; a son, Michael Rappaport of Florida; two grandchildren, Kristin Robinson and her husband, Jack, and Mark Wiltbank; her great-grandchildren Kaitlyn Robinson, Joseph, Alexis and Autumn Wiltbank; a sister, Sarah Venable and her husband, Bill Venable Sr., of Berlin; a sister-in-law, Sally Hitchens of Ocean Pines; two nieces, Debbie Haas and Linda Haas Smith; a nephew, David Haas; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Horace Hitchens; and two sisters, Dorothy Stevens and Ellen "Pete" Haas.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Ocean City at a future date.

Paul G. Thomas

OCEAN PINES – Paul G. Thomas of Ocean Pines died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, after living a long and prosperous life.

Born in Aliquippa, Pa., on Oct. 16, 1935, Paul graduated in 1953 from Hopewell High School in Aliquippa.

A member of Sigma Chi, he was awarded a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1958. With a career that spanned Southern California, Wichita Falls, Texas, Thule, Greenland, Scarborough, U.K., New York, N.Y., and Washington, Paul retired with his wife Iva to Ocean Pines after working for IBM for 25 years in Spring, Md.

He is survived by his wife, Iva; his eldest son, Stephen; his grandchildren, Kaley and Rachel; his youngest son, Michael; his daughter in-law, Julia; his grandson, Carson; and his most loving daughter, Janet.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Thomas; his stepmother, Mary; his younger brother, Armand; and his mother, Mary Pushkar.
