BERLIN- The Berlin Junior Dolphins of the Salvation Army League won their third straight game last weekend, topping county rival Pocomoke, 14-6, to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Pocomoke came into the game undefeated and Berlin had just one loss, so something had to give last weekend as the two familiar rivals faced off. Berlin scored first on a 40-yard touchdown pass from Colin Macomber to Henry Hastings. The Dolphins’ other score came on a one-yard touchdown run by Robert Phillips. That was all the scoring Berlin would need as the Dolphins’ defense, led by Colin May, was stout all day and yielded just one touchdown.

The win improved the Junior Dolphins’ record to 3-1 on the season. Meanwhile, the outcome was not as good for the young Berlin Cadet Dolphins team, which fell to Snow Hill to remain winless on the season. The Cadet Dolphins are now 0-4 on the season, which Coach Ron Bireley acknowledged was a rebuilding year for the young, inexperienced team.

Both Berlin teams play in the local Salvation Army “Red Shield” Youth Football League, which features young players who will fill out the rosters of the Bayside Conference teams in the future. The teams are set up based on age and weight restrictions with the Juniors ages 11-13 with a maximum weight of 150 pounds, and the Cadets ages 7-10 with a maximum weight of 120 pounds.
