OCEAN CITY- Defending champion Buxy’s Salty Dog has jumped out to an early lead in the standings in the Ocean City Recreation and Park’s Department’s fall flag football league after winning its first two games, but the team currently shares the top spot with a relative newcomer in the action.
Buxy’s has won the title for three years in a row and got off to an early start in the first week of action, first blanking the Crab Cake Factory, 28-0, in the season opener. In the second game of the season, Buxy’s beat Blue Ox, 25-7, to improve to 2-0 and take an early lead in the standings.
However, the Salty Dog is sharing the lead with a relative newcomer in the league. The Schell Brothers team, making its first appearance in the annual league is also 2-0 after beating Tequila Duffybird, 6-0, in its opener and following that up with a 19-13 win over another perennial contender for the title, Kirby’s Pub. Schell Brothers are also 2-0 and share the lead at the top with Buxy’s after the first two weeks.
Four teams are lurking close behind in the standings each with 1-1 record including Kirby’s, Crab Cake Factory, Three Brothers Pizza and Tequila Duffybird. Bringing up the rear in the standings after just two weeks is the FOP Lodge 10 and the Blue Ox, which are both 0-2 on the young season.
