Steven Richard Noonan

OCEAN VIEW, Del. – Steven Richard Noonan, 39, of Ocean View, DE, formerly of Baltimore, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at home. He had been a courier and a waiter.

Noonan was preceded in death by his mother, Velma Miller Noonan. He is survived by his father, Robert E. Noonan, III; step-mother, Traci Noonan of Selbyville, Del.; a brother, Robert E. Noonan, IV, and his wife, Dana, of Tampa, Fla.; a niece, Marley Mae Noonan; a step-brother, Michael McCoy of Berwick, Pa.; an aunt and uncle, Evelyn and Benjamin Douglas, of Baltimore; his maternal grandfather, Robert Thompson of Clearwater, Fla.; and a wife and son, Kathy and Christian Noonan of Lushy, Md.

Services were held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Camp Rehoboth Community Center, c/o Camp Rehoboth, 37 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach, Del. 19971.

Donald C. Hoen

OCEAN CITY – Donald C. Hoen, 61, of Ocean City, died on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2008 after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret A. Hoen, in 2007.

He is survived by his parents, Ralph and Alice Hoen of Berlin; his daughter and son in law, Jennifer H. Dotson and Daniel M. Dotson of New Market; his son and daughter in law, Christoper D. And Jennifer A. Hoen of Bishopville; and eight grandchildren, Matthew, Timothy, Chase, Cameron, Piper and Payton Dotson of New Market and Caitlyn and Baylor Hoen of Bishopville. Additional survivors include his sisters, Lelia H. Masaschi of Timonium, Susan H. Hoen of Towson as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

Hoen was a 1965 graduate of Loyola Blakefield in Towson where he was an outstanding football player. He attended Villanova University and University of Baltimore. He moved to Ocean City in 1979 and was a real estate developer. He was a past member of both the Board of Port Wardens and the Planning and Zoning Commission for the Town of Ocean City. Most recently he worked for Barry Isset and Associates in Berlin.

Charles Roland Bishop

BERLIN – Charles Roland Bishop, age 85, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

Born in South Wales, Great Britain, he was the son of the late Roland and Alice Griffiths Bishop. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Myra Kemp Bishop; a daughter, Carolyn Norris and her husband Donald of Herndon, Va.; a son, Geoffrey Charles Bishop and his wife Pam of Berlin; three grandchildren, Stephen Norris of Arlington, Va., Brian Norris of Atlanta, Ga. and Kyle Bishop of Berlin; four sisters, Marjorie B. Thurtle, Myra Chandler, Gillian Madeley and Lena Self; four brothers, George Bishop, John Bishop, Godfrey Bishop and Emrhys Bishop; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, June Hayden.

Bishop had served in the English Army for six years during WWII. He had been a carpenter and builder throughout his lifetime. He had proudly worked on the building of Bethany United Methodist Church and parsonage and also on the Assateague Bridge. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.

Services were held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 8648 Stephen Decatur Hwy., Berlin, Md. 21811. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Virginia Lee Craig

OCEAN CITY – Virginia Lee Craig, age 88, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 at the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin.

Born in Berlin, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Otho Harold Mason and Mary Dale Mason. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Captain Robert S. Craig, formerly of the Ocean City Beach Patrol.

Craig was a graduate of Buckingham High School in Berlin and Goldie Beacom Business College in Wilmington, Del. She was associated for over 40 years with The Principia in St. Louis, Mo., where she was secretary to the school’s editor of publications and also, for several years, taught home economics in the middle school. She was a member of the Principia Mothers Club, Fourth Church of Christ, Scientist, St. Louis, and, later, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Kirkwood, Mo. Her Eastern Shore memberships included Friends of Worcester County Library-Ocean City Branch, Ocean City Golf and Yacht Club, and First Church of Christ, Scientist, Rehoboth Beach, Del.

Along with her husband, she is survived by her children, James Russell Craig of San Jose, Calif., Robert M. Craig and his wife Carole Anne of Atlanta, Ga., and Mary Dale Craig of Ocean City; one grandson, Christopher Kyle Craig and his wife Lynlee Squires Craig of Winston Salem, N.C.; and one great granddaughter, Emma Ruth Craig. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Her entire family and countless friends loved her and cherished her. The spirit of her life of selfless love lives on in the many lives she touched.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Whaley Cemetery in Whaleyville, Md.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ocean City Beach Patrol, PO Box 158, Ocean City, Md. 21843. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Cecilia C. Crawford

OCEAN PINES – Cecilia C. Crawford, the daughter of Margaret Mary Murray and Charles Moore Copeland, was born Emily Cecilia Copeland in Rector Arkansas, on Jan. 7, 1915.

Crawford was raised in Ponchatula and Columbia, Miss.. She attended Bowling Green Business University. After graduation, she worked for the Mississippi State Tax Commission for three years. She then took a job with the Mississippi Governor’s office working for the then Governor Hugh White.

She met her future husband, George Robert Crawford, at a USO dance in Jackson, Miss. on Valentine’s Day 1942. They were married a year later. They raised eight children, three boys and five girls.

Crawford resided in Ocean Pines since 1978 where she and her husband retired after raising their family. She was an active member of the St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Ocean Pines. She enjoyed playing bridge and took great joy in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Crawford was preceded in death by her husband, George Robert Crawford, and is survived by her eight children, George Matthew and Arminda Crawford of Columbus, Ohio, Mark Robert and Virginia Crawford of Springfield, Va. and Michael Luke Crawford of Silver Spring, Md., Margaret Ann Armstrong, of London, Ohio, Mary Cecilia and Paul Lodato of Silver Spring, Md., Loretta Marie and H. Cabot Lodge of Chestertown, Md., Cathryn Murray and Douglas Edwards of Mt. Airy, Md. and Carolyn Murray & Greg Morrison of Silver Spring, Md.; 22 grandchildren; and 12 great-grand children.

Diane D. Reid 

BISHOPVILLE – Diane D. Reid, 58, died Friday at home.

Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy McCabe Dinges. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Reid, and her brother, Robert Dinges.

She is survived by her son, Michael C. Collins and his wife, Rebecca of Fairfield, Pa.; a brother, Richard Dinges of Berlin; a sister, Charleen Long and her husband Charles of Berlin; a grandson, Ethan Collins; and a goddaughter, Hanna Tingle .

Reid was a secretary for GFC Industries in Bishopville and a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Bishopville.

Services were held at Zion Cemetery in Bishopville.
