Ronald Kay Bevard

NEWARK – Ronald Kay Bevard, age 72, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008.

Born in Brownsville, Pa., he was the son of the late George Robert Bevard and Elsie Hoover Bevard.

Bevard was a graduate of California Community High School in California, Pa. He was a past member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, a 25-year volunteer fireman with Newark Fire Company, an amateur radio operator, he served in the United States Navy, he was a member and was inducted as Master of Evergreen Lodge #153 in 1998 and he was a member of Bowen United Methodist Church. Bevard was a retired USDA inspector.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Livingston Bevard, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on March 23, 2008; a son, Warren G. Bevard and his wife Helen of Snow Hill; two daughters, Ronna B. Lynch and her husband Jesse and Beth L. Costello and her husband David, all of Snow Hill; one brother Robert E. Bevard and his wife Jackie of Farmington, Pa.; two sisters, Robena B. Logan of Deltona, Fla. and Renee Schultz and her husband Mark of West Brownsville, Pa.; six grandchildren, Jonathan Costello, Angela Richardson and her husband Jay, Ben Carmean, Natalie Costello, Drew Bevard and Jennifer Bevard. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

A funeral service was held at Bowen United Methodist Church in Newark. Interment was in Bowen Cemetery.

Richard Lawrence Cook

OCEAN CITY – Richard Lawrence Cook, age 71, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008 in Ocean City.

Born in Swickley, Pa., he was the son of the late Richard Cook and Alice Ball Cook. He is survived by his longtime companion, Judy Myers of Salisbury. Also surviving is his son, Shane Cook; daughter-in-law, Oliva Cook; and grandchildren, Jasmine Cook and Lukas Cook, all of Kill Devil Hills, N,C. Also surviving is a sister Alison Cadbury of Eugene, Ore. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Cook, but survived by his nephew, Sean Cook, his wife Julia and children Hannah, Bryce and Lucy, and nephew, Scott Cook, his wife Karen, and their children Kayla, Nicole and Colin.

Cook was a graduate of Bainbridge Naval Academy Prep School and American University. He was a United States Navy veteran, a licensed Realtor and developed several communities in north Ocean City including Bayshore Estates and Environmental Homes. He had a keen interest in maritime history and research, leading the exploration of many ancient shipwrecks off the Delmarva coast. He was a member of Ocean City Baptist Church. He was a tireless worker for the needy in the area and served as an active deacon at the church. He trusted in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

A memorial funeral service was held at Ocean City Baptist Church. Rev. Terry Davis officiated. Internment will be at a later date.

Mary Louise Layton

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Mary Louise Layton "Sue", age 63, died on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008 at Chesapeake General Hospital in Virginia.

Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Roland P. Baker and Emma Rosser Baker.

Layton was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Berlin and the Berlin-Ocean City Moose Lodge.

She is survived by a son, Donald Horne and his wife Joanne of Glen Burnie; three daughters, Kim Morton and her husband David of Chesapeake, Va., Donna Horne of Glen Burnie and Karen Churches and her husband Ken of Springhill, Fla.; three brothers, Fred, Dick and Butch Baker; and 15 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at noon at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin where friends may call on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Berlin.

Margaret J. Cregan

OCEAN PINES – Margaret J. Cregan, age 79, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008 at Atlantic General Hospital.

Born in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late James Keough and Dorothy Zaar Keough.

She is survived by her husband, William B. Cregan; three sons, Barry Cregan and his wife Ollie, Brian Cregan and his wife Ali and Chris Cregan and his wife Lara; one daughter, Colleen Cregan; two sisters, Rose Mary Whalen and Geraldine Caulfield and her husband Tom; and five grandchildren, Stephanie Hood, Whitney Cregan, Trey Cregan, Mia Cregan, and Jacob Graham Cregan. She was preceded in death by three brothers, James, John and Francis Keough and six sisters, Theresa Augatis, Nancy Moriarty, Betty Rhoda, Dorothy Erb, Jean Keough and Bridie Elmer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Ocean Pines where friends may call one hour prior to the service and also on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock.

Rosalind S. Carravone

OCEAN PINES – Rosalind S. Carravone, age 65, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late David Egort and Sylvia Kutcher Egort.

Carravone loved life, nature and her friends. She would do anything for anybody. She was very private and devoted to her husband and family. She had a 25-year career with Mobil Oil Corp.

She was the beloved wife and devoted friend of her husband, George W. Carravone; loving mother of Adrienne Cuccia and her husband Salvatore, Elise Carravone and Deana Wagerer and her husband Michael; sister of Norman Egort and his wife Libby; and grandmother of Paige, Talia, Salvatore, Jr., Gabrielle, Nicholas, Corryne, Christian and Ireland.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Temple Bat Yam, 11036 Worcester Hwy., Berlin, Md. 21811. Johnny William George

LEWES, Del. – Johnny William George began his earthly life on April 24, 1931, in Painter, Va. to Martha Floyd and Willie George, His eternal life began on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008 at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, Del.

In the early years, George had diesel fuel running through his veins for years on end. His nickname was “Foxxy Brown”, known to all. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh with his crazy antics. He enjoyed spending time with his children and his family.

He was a devoted and loyal member of St. John 2nd Baptist Church, 30-plus years, and an active member of the Usher board. He was also a member of the We Care Truck and Bus Drivers Organization. George was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

George is survived by his wife of 39 years, Annie George; one sister, Helen (Linwood) Wise of Millsboro, Del.; one brother, Harry Benny George of Bronx, N.Y.; his children, Johnny (Tina) Buck Hovington, Daniel (Mary) George, Cherlene (Lans) Owen, Shelia Fosque, Janet (Walter) Hopkins, Chezelle George; his step children, Patsy Drayton, Gerald Davis, Anthony (Althea) Davis; and a host of grand children and great grand children. 

Services will be at noon on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 at the St. John 2nd Baptist Church, Mt. Joy, near Millsboro, Del. where friends may call after 10 a.m.. Pastor Annie Jane Custis will officiate the service.

Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Patriot Way, Millsboro, Del.

Father George W. Kelser 

SELBYVILLE – Father George W. Kelser, 73, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008 at home.

Born in Easton, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Madeline M. Vidt Kelser. He is survived by his wife, Alice L. Kelser; a grandson, Christopher Michael Zimmerman; and two great-grandsons, George and Sebastian Zimmerman. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Joseph Kelser in 2007 and his daughter, Karen Ann Zimmerman in 1980.

Kelser was a retired Priest and a member of Trinity Cathedral in Berlin and was also retired from the U.S. Army having served for 45 years.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday. Interment was at Memorial Garden at Trinity Cathedral. Memorial donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Del. 19963.

John E. Irvin

SELBYVILLE – John E. Irvin., 49, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Cook Township, Pa.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Thomas Irvin. He is survived by his wife, Judy Sanville Irvin; a son, Casey T. Irvin; his mother, Ruth Irvin; two brothers, Thomas and Richard Irvin; a stepmother, Donna Irvin; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Debbie and Richard Griffin. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

Irvin was a truck driver for Old Dominion Trucking Company. He was an avid bowler and a member of the United States Bowling Congress. He served in the U.S. Army.
