Trade-In Days Offered

BERLIN – Debbie Frene, owner of Victorian Charm, a well-known Berlin boutique that specializes in quality handbags, is holding her third annual Brighton Trade-in Days promotion.

Through Aug. 3, people can trade in their old handbags and receive $25 to $50 off the purchase of a new registered Brighton handbag. Customers will receive $50 off purchases over $150 and $25 for under.

The used handbags are then donated to the Atlantic General Hospital Thrift Shop.

“The ladies at the thrift shop were so excited when they saw us coming in with all handbags,” Frene said. “It actually caused a bit of a commotion because their customers recognized the big burgundy Victorian Charm shopping bags that we had the handbags in and thought that we were donating new products. People were going through the bags before we could set them down. The good news for them was that many of our Brighton customer’s used handbags were of very high quality and still in great shape…some bags were barely used.”

Another thrift shop located across the street from Victorian Charm, St. Paul’s Church Mouse on the corner of Main Street and Pitts Avenue in Downtown Berlin, also gets a boost in sales during this promotion.

“Many times vacationers visit the store during our Brighton Trade-in Days and don’t have an old handbag to trade in. So, we send them across the street to the Church Mouse where they can buy an old purse for a few dollars then trade it in for a $25 or $50 discount. Everybody wins,” Frene says,
