Grad Jumps Into Real Estate

OCEAN CITY – Sarah Miller, a 2008 graduate of Stephen Decatur High School, went straight from the classroom to the classroom.

While most graduates began their "Senior Week" celebration rituals the moment commencement exercises concluded, Miller signed up for a little different program. She began attending the Ed Smith Real Estate course first thing the next morning.

Miller’s graduation experience was much like other seniors; all the pomp and circumstance of commencement, the arrival of many excited family members from out of town, too much attention and too many family pictures. Afterwards Miller was determined to squeeze in at least a little post graduation celebration before turning in early. "It’s the most important night of my life and I was definitely not happy missing out on all the graduation night plans, but it was the only time of the summer that the real estate course was available. I didn’t have much choice," Miller said.

After completing and passing the real estate exam, Miller went on to pass the State of Maryland Real Estate Commission exam. At 18, Miller is a licensed real estate agent for Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage at the 104th Street office. She currently assists the Peck Miller Group with sales of her father’s projects.

Miller will attend the College of Charleston in the fall.

"I know it’s a tough time to get into real estate but even if I sell one property, I have the potential to make a decent amount of money to put away for college,” Miller said. “Besides, I can learn a lot from my dad this summer, he’s a great teacher and a very good realtor. Next summer should be a better real estate market and by then I’ll have more experience at selling property."

5-Star Rating Earned

BERLIN – Calvin B. Taylor Bank President and CEO Ray Thompson wishes to remind consumers that the bank has again achieved a 5-Star rating from Bauer Financial, Inc., the nation’s leading independent bank rating and research firm.

The rating indicates that Taylor Bank is one of the strongest banks in the country. This is the 70th consecutive time that the bank has earned this high rating, which gives it the added prestige of being an “Exceptional Performance Bank” (for earning this highest honor for ten years or longer).

“Fewer than 16 percent of the nation’s banks can claim this distinction,” said Thompson. “We are all aware of the concerns in the banking industry these days. Consumers need to know that Taylor Bank continues to be safe, sound, stable, and secure, making our bank an ideal place to put your deposits”.
