Betty Ann Gordy

BERLIN – Betty Ann Gordy, age 70, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin. She was the daughter of the late Archie Bishop and Pearl Massey Bishop.

Gordy was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Berlin. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting and loved puzzles. She also loved her cat Missy.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Gordy; a son, Richard C. Lynch and his wife Yvonne of Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters, Nancy Carey and her husband Addison of Millsboro, Del, and Sharon K. McClain and her husband Randy of Willards; three step-children, Richard L. Gordy, Vicky Daisey and her husband Michael and Lisa Mitchell and her husband Dean; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Edward Lynch; two brothers, Ralph Bishop and Melvin Bishop; and a grandchild Addison Carey, III.

Services were held at Riverside Cemetery in Libertytown.

Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Gloria G. Raber

OCEAN PINES – Gloria G. Raber, age 81, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at Catered Living in Ocean Pines.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late August Hirstius and Regina Schoeber Hirstius. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Raber.

Raber was a homemaker and loved her home and being with her family.

She is survived by a son, Stephen J. Raber and his wife Irene; a daughter, Jacqueline G. Raber; a sister, Jeanette Brown; two granddaughters, Katherine and Patricia Raber; one great grandson, Tyler Raber; and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Hiram Brown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Toms River, NJ. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Toms River, N.J. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity International, 121 Habitat St., Americus, Ga. 31709-3498. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Joseph George Ruta

BERLIN – Joseph George Ruta, age 85, died on Monday, July 7, 2008 at Berlin Nursing Home in Berlin.

Born in New York, NY he was the son of the late George and Pasqualina Alfano Ruta. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Greten Ruta, in March 2008.

Ruta had worked as a stock broker for Frankels Broker Firm in Jersey City, N.J. He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Ocean Pines.

He is survived by a son, Christopher Ruta and his wife Jennifer of Great Neck, N.Y.; a daughter, Allison Ruta of Ocean Pines; a niece, Joanne Carlson of Summerville, N.J.; a nephew, Nicholas Greten, Jr. of Florida; and two granddaughters, Jessica and Erin Ruta.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held yesterday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Ocean Pines. Interment was private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, Ill. 60601-7633. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Mary Delores Fiedler

BERLIN – Mary Delores Fiedler, age 86, died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

Born in Baltimore, MD she was the daughter of the late Jesse W. Sears and Mary V. Jackson Sears. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Donald Fiedler.

Fiedler was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Ocean Pines, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #183, Telephone Pioneers, Atlantic General Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer, and TOPS. She volunteered in the local school systems as a Pioneer POG Lady

She is survived by four sons, John P. Fiedler and his wife, Kay, George D. Fiedler and his wife, Jocelyn, Patrick M. Fiedler, and Joseph T. Fiedler and

his wife, Barbara; one sister, Margaret Metzger; six grandchildren, Jesse D. Fiedler, Jacob A. Fiedler, Justin M. Fiedler; Timothy S. Fiedler, Courtney N. Fiedler and Jillian E. Fiedler. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Fiedler was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Henry and Joseph Sears, and one sister, Ann V. "Nancy" Sears.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Ocean Pines. Interment will be at a later date at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock.

Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to Catholic Charities, 66 Canal Center Plaza, Suite 600, Alexandria, Va. 22314. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Jane Elizabeth Schneider

BERLIN – Jane Elizabeth Schneider, age 80, died Tuesday, July 4, 2008 at her home in Berlin.

Born in Washington, D.C. she was the daughter of the late John Lartz and Sarah Stover Lartz.

She is survived by a son, Larry Schneider of Rosamond, Calif.; three nieces, Carol Ann Goodwin, Jennifer Maizel and Linda Lockwood; and two nephews, Bill Lartz and John F. Lartz, III. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John F. Lartz, Jr. And James Lartz.

Services and Interment are private. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
