Venus Nails and Spa, just one mile north of Ocean City, boasts great prices, great people and a great atmosphere, offering something for everyone from deep tissue massages to manicures and pedicures.

Venus Nails, located on Route 1 in Fenwick, has been serving the resort area for nearly 12 years. Owner Adam Kesbe sat down with The Dispatch this week to discuss the ins and outs of their family-run business.

“We both were in nursing school when we met and she introduced me to the business – we’ve enjoyed it ever since,” Ksebe said of his wife Nicole. Ksebe and Nicole each worked at Venus Nails for years before opting to take over the business and buy it from Nicole’s sister last year.

“We’ve added a lot since then, we renovated from top to bottom,’ said Ksebe.

Venus Nails and Spa provides a wide variety of services, from full nail services, varying from manicures and pedicures to designs and polish changes, to massage therapy and waxing.

“My wife does excellent work with gel nails, acrylics and designs,” said Ksebe, adding that his specialty lies in pedicures.

When Ksebe took over, they opted to add massage therapy to the mix, adding two new massage rooms and hiring two experienced massage therapists to join the team. Swedish, hot stone and deep tissue massages are all offered at Venus Nails and Spa, ranging in price and time.

Combination packages are also available, said Ksebe. Currently, the “A Day of Beauty” package is the most popular, which includes a one-hour Swedish massage and a deluxe manicure and pedicure for $110.

“Our $110 package is around $200 at most of the day spas around here,” said Ksebe. “Our prices right now are very competitive, especially for the quality of service that we provide.”

Providing reasonable prices is a priority for Ksebe, who also emphasizes cleanliness and a comfortable atmosphere.

“Because of our nursing backgrounds, we really try to keep everything as clean as possible – sanitation is our first priority,” he said.

Maintaining a laid back atmosphere that is enjoyable for all is the next priority, said Ksebe.

“We try to have a really friendly atmosphere here. We keep things loose and enjoyable and the customers partake in that as well,” he said.

According to Ksebe, the relaxed atmosphere is conducive to men and women, all ages. Entire families often come in together, with something available for everyone.

“It’s something different to do at the beach,” he said.

Ksebe contributes the success and growth of this past year to their loyal customers.

“When people come in one time, we usually see them year after year,” he said.

In the summer months, Venus Nails and Spa maintains a comfortable balance of year-round customers and vacationers.

“We really have a nice mix, but we really have a lot of local customers who are our regulars,” explained Ksebe. “We’re definitely busier in the summertime, but we’ve really been growing, people are spreading the word. We’re clean, we’ve got the experience and we provide great customer service.”

Although the economy has threatened to weaken small businesses, Ksebe noted that he has seen little change since the economic downturn.

“We’ve seen less walk-ins this year, but our local clientele has increased because we’re doing things the right way here,” he said.

Ksebe has every intention of continuing with renovations and growth, with plans already underway. At the end of the summer season, new pedicure chairs will be brought in. Ksebe also plans to add an aesthetician to the team as well.

Plans to expand are also on the horizon, he said, with the possibility of expanding next door or expanding back rooms.

For now though, Ksebe encourages everyone to stop in.

“We’re well worth the ride, whether you’re staying in Rehoboth, Ocean City or Ocean Pines,” he said.
