Idol Contest, Bathtub Races Set For Berlin Village Fair

BERLIN – The Town of Berlin is preparing to host its annual rite of summer, the 20th Annual Village Fair, sponsored by the Berlin Chamber of Commerce.

The Village Fair will be held this year on Saturday, June 14, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. with lots of activities for the whole family. Plans are underway for what promises to be a fun packed day.

There are over 50 art and craft vendors with all handmade items from the Eastern Shore. Other activities include the Berlin Antique Road Show, Berlin Idol Contest, Kid Section with rides and activities, bathtub races, music provided by Burger Review and Rick Kenny, The Lone Ranger, great food and much more.

Charlene Upham will be the official “Antiques Road Show” celebrity. She has been doing appraisals on Delmarva for over 20 years. So dig out those antiques and let her decide what their value may be. The Antiques Road Show will be moved this year to a tent in front of Town Center Antiques across from Downtown Video.

The Berlin Idol contest will be a great treat for many young folks. Karen Prengaman is in charge of the event again this year, which will be held at the crossroads of Main and Pitt streets with a stage and judged by local judges. There is a lot of local talent and what a great way to showcase that talent.

The Berlin Idol Contest will start at approximately 9 a.m. and will be a full day of fun and activities. When the Idol contest is over, music will be provided by Charlie Flagiello and the Burger Review. Lots of his friends get together and play in an open mike type setting then Rick Kenny takes the stage.

The Bath Tub races will be held near the end of the day and what a way to end the day. The participants race for the coveted trophy and bragging rights as the winner of the Berlin Bath Tub Race. William Outten with A Step Above Gallery and Gifts was the winner last year and will be hard pressed to give up the trophy this year. Contestants race along Main Street toward a finish line.

Participants are sought for this year’s contest and if interested contact Jessie Turner at the Berlin Shoe Box for more information at 410-641-1270.

There will be a sizable children’s area with local non-profit organizations sponsoring many booths for children’s activities. There will be a small amusement park with rides, sponsored by Taylor and Sons Amusement Company.
